    So, in summary.
Hotham and Buller are the best mountains for steep challenging terrain.
One is more reliable than one that is the most challenging

I'd ski it once like that, then say it would need another foot before going back again. 2 feet would be perfect but let's be honest, it's Australia and you cant be greedy. I left 3 tendons off my left ankle in pieces not far from this shot in conditions not unlike this, it's not this shot where the low tide gets you, it's the jump down that does (and it got me).

    Bit like Hotham really.

The runs off Golden Point ARE similar to the runs off Golden Point at Hotham.

Drop off the right side of purgatory spur through the trees near the bottom. Not very long, but quite steep. If you include out of bounds then avalanche gully would be up there.

I hit Powder Keg (to the mid road) for the first time last year in late September, and immediately regretted chickening out of following my mates in there on a 30cm+ day in August.

Does the traverse out get any less shit if its open top to bottom?

No. The bottom one is a bit shorter, but flatter.
