Just wondering how the websites forecast the visibility conditions for resorts? Is it based on the amount of clouds and what height they are at? or is there more to it?

Model forecasts are forecasting water vapour particals, pertaining to their density over a distance.
Observable visibility is a bit different as it is measured inclusive of the above plus smoke, haze etc. the latter being mesoscale differences in which models won't pick up on.
