Am thinking of heading up for the weekend from Melbourne and staying Sat night off mountain. How long does it take to get up to the mountain from Bright?

The other thing is I think we will be coming up via Omeo (not the Hume)so would be it better to stay on that side?

Allow 5+ hours from Melb to Falls Creek via the Hume with one 15 minute break. 3 1/2 hours to Bright and another 1 1/2 to Falls Creek. People who both know the road well and drive like hoons can do it faster.

The Falls Creek - Omeo Road is CLOSED between Queen's Birthday and Cup weekends, so if you are coming up from Gippsland you would have to go via Hotham and Bright. This adds hours to your trip, so if you live in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne, the Hume is till the fastest and easiest way to get to Falls Creek in winter.

Im guessing that it would take around an hour to get to Harrietville then add the drive up the hill. (I stand to be corrected)

You could also get the chopper over for $99 return?

I'd say more like 2 - 2.5 hours Falls to Hotham. 45 mins FC to MBeauty then about 90 to Hotham depending on conditions.

If you are going Melbourne to FC, don't go via Omeo. If you are in the east, you can go via Yea and the midland hwy, otherwise via the Hume. do not go to Bright, but turn off at Ovens for a much easier (if less scenic) drive.

I agree with that because if you stay in bright that's just a longer drive to the resort each time.

My post was refering to Mt Beauty - Harrietville in around an hour. Then you would add the drive down/up both hills [IMG] (conditions can vary the length of the trip dramatically)
