Only 6 rain free days in the last month, and even those had the risk of rain ... when does it start getting wrm and dry again?

If we had some decent height over here in the south of the state, we wouldn't have to drag ourselves to Victoria every year for our ski fix

I think we top out around 1200m and that's in the Pilbara at 40c for months on end.

Not really condusive for ski fields

Tell me about it. We got back from Skiing mid August, and my wife never packed her ski jacket away... had more use in Perth than in the Snow.

I'm just hanging out for this rain to stop so that I can unwrap my boat, and get her ready for summer.

Scott.... give it 30,000 to 40,000 years, weather cycles may have changed enough for snow in WA...... or maybe by then, we will have an indoor snow park!!!

I'm enjoying the rain and the wintery weather, not ready for it to end yet.

The only advantage in the onset of spring is that its one season closer to next winter!!

I'm with Gareth plus we need the rain. Definately not looking forward to the weather warming up. Thankfully me and my ski jacket will be in the northern hemisphere for 4 wks in the height of WA's summer:)

Don't complain, the season that masquerades as winter & the fringing months are by far the best time in Perth - one can still comfortably wear shorts, t-shirt & a light jacket, the crispness & lower angled light soften the featureless urban wasteland & even better the good season brings some half decent waves, some whitewater paddling & you can even climb in the sun without feeling like you on a vertical hotplate!!

I think the peoples attitudes, lack of preparation & inappropriate urban design make Perths tepid winters seem far worse than they actually are!!

Residing a reasonable distance south from the said place, I've often dreamed of what some decent 3000m peaks would bring to the south west as the roaring forties rip into the corner on their fortnightly winter cycle. And spending substantial time up on the 'roof' of WA, I drool over what a couple metres of decent cover would do to the terrain contours of the Hamersley's, although work colleagues don't quite see the same potential.... their usually too busy complaing about how hard done by the 'winter' weather they've been in Perth on days off!!

The average rainfall in Perth for Jun/July/Aug is 416mm and this year they've had 417mm. So about as close to average as you could expect.

Now this has me thinking. Is there some sort of oscillation effect rainfall wise between southern WA and Victoria, ie. low rainfall in Vic = high in WA and vice versa?

    It wasn't a lovely 30C. It was a windy, dusty, dry 30C.

Actually, 26 was the best on offer at my place, but it gave me a bad headache just the same!

Finally! some decent weather! A stunning (if not a little cool) day outside today with a fantastic long weekend ahead! [IMG]

I think Perth beat its most rainy days in a month record by a fair whack over the last few months! [IMG]

I believe the last time water was flowing over Mundaring Weir was in 1996. I moved into Lesmurdie around that time, and remember the traffic jams as people drove up to see the waterfall. Mr Whippy Vans made lots of money that week.

Perth didn't have the thunderstorms and hail as forecast just some much needed rain and boy was it cold. Glad I had my ski jacket on :) A couple of people in the lift at work remarked that I had the right idea re the jacket as they shivered in their knits!

The merc didn't get quite that high.. just over 31 deg, but that was plenty hot enough for me. Here's wishing the next 14 weeks goes really quick so I can bring out all the cold weather gear again for my Northern Hemisphere trip! Meanwhile one very dirty ski jacket needs a wash ....

Yeah it is getting a bit silly now ... 39.6C in the shade outside here, 25C inside with the AC on ... I was going to go to the beach for a swim, but it is a little too hot for that. Oh well at least it is like Melbourne heat, nice and dry, 39.6C here is more pleasent than KL was last week at 30C.

You can keep that! I can put up with low 30 temps but prefer to wait until December for those. Don't want them in October!

[IMG] just hit the 40.0C mark outside in the shade under my patio! Official perth AWS is at 36.4C, just 0.5C away from the all time record ... and it is still rising! I just went outside to hang out the washing and I reckon the clothes I put on first were dry by the time I put on the last ones! [IMG] Ok not true, there is very little wind (none) and it is just stiffling. I dont think the wife will be happy because I washed her dressing gown and towels and hung them on the line to dry. She likes to dry them in the dryer because they are softer that way ... I simply could not bring myself to use the dryer on a 35+ day! That would be soooooo wrong.

Drying the washing outside is great, when there is a bit of a breeze, in this heat it just rapid dries to a crisp. Horrible to iron and yep, it shags towels.

And now I have to go out cos I forgot something at the shops :-(

Well Perth has equalled it's October max record of 36.9C and it is still hovering around the 36.4 mark ... Temp at home has dropped to a much more manageable 35.5C but still ... The hoegardens at the pub went down well [IMG]
