In Strasbourg at the moment and have a car booked for three weeks, starting Tuesday (2 Jan). Was originally planning to head straight for Cham, but looking at the forecast it's certainly not going to be a week for the alpine. Now thinking maybe Val Cenis or Serre Chevalier for some trees, but it might be heavy going with the fluctuating snowline. If you had a car, and could be heading anywhere in the Alps from Tuesday, where would you be heading? Background- two advanced skiers, full avi gear (though obviously not a week for bc this week), one with touring gear, not interested in skiing groomers, interested in skiing everything else. PS- if anyone is around and keen for a ski, yell out. Likely to be based mostly in France, but happy to get around a bit. Skiing from the 3rd to 22nd.
A slight quandary. Poor light and temps + vis . =Treed sheltered slopes at altitude. I would try Arosa/ L.enzerheide
You still have a week to go and it looks like a cracker if you don't mind a bit of wind. Check out WePowder for projected snowfalls and Meteo France for a weather forecast and be guided by them. We're expecting well over a metre here in Portes du Soleil and further south will cop another big dump. Beware of too much snow though as the avalanche danger will be nutso and between the wind and snow a lot of places might not be open. Ignore what the locals here call Inaccuweather - it's often completely wrong even on the day. We had a bluebird day last week that they predicted that morning as "heavy cloud".
