Olivia Sayers is a Buller skier and disabled athlete who has been selected to represent Australia along with Nicole Harris in the World Championships for Para-Athletes with an Intellectual disability. http://www.erzurum2012iwsc.com/

I am a volunteer coach for the team, I will be working with Olivia for 10 days in France prior to the event then with both athletes during the event in Erzurum, Turkey. The two athletes will be skiing Special Slalom, Giant Slalom and Super Giant Slalom

We fly out tomorrow night for 3 days warming up in Chamonix, France after which we will move to Flaine for a week of race training prior to the competition.

Please cheer Olivia & Nicole on and send all your best wishes, I will post photos and updates over the coming weeks.

Erzurum is high, cold and extremely dry. So inside with heating it can cause problems (esp in the athletes village from the universiade last year), with a lot of people getting sore throats and sick. Leave some wet towels by the heating or use the shower to get some moisture in the rooms there.

Awesome gig dude, you can change your name to karmaman, a lot more appropriate than carveman.

Ooh I like that, no surprises in the set - racing at hat level is sometimes more about the course setter, this way I find it a bit more equitable.

Looking at the results from last year only 2 women finished the slalom, so it proves that a standard set will be challenging enough so (as with all the races but the slalom in particular) our first focus will be completing the 2 runs.

It's really hard to strike a balance between speed and control on a predictable set, push, check push.....push push push oversteer, miss a pole.

If no one is finishing the race, you really need to trust yourself with a slower, faultless run than a fast, risky one.

It's a real mind space that is hard to master.

The competition has it's own Facebook Page if you are interested in following: http://www.facebook.com/erzurum2012iwsc?sk=wall

We have been skiing here in Turkey for a couple of days now, snow is poor so we are considering that a positive for the Australian team. After the opening ceremony tonight I will have a few more pics and will do another blog update probably tomorrow morning.

Another win for Nicole in the GS, still waiting for the official results but I think Olivia came 8th.

Very testing conditions today and frankly thrilled to have both girls safely over the line.

Ripper Rita! That blizzard looked intense, always a chance of missing a gate and not getting caught.
Well done to both

Steve, Graeme, Scott and the rest of the Kimberley crew will be stoked for Nicole.
