The next ancient world heritage place we went to was the Lion Rock at Sigiriya(spelling?).
We got to the ticket booth at 7 am to beat the heat and the crowds. They pack them in at this spot. The climb up the many steps to see the ruins of the city on top of a big rock was a sweaty job.
The most famous sight there is the Sigiriya (spelling?) frescoes of celestial maidens. Cameras are banned at that place where the paintings can be viewed on an overhanging rock wall.
It is one of the oldest ancient capitals of Sri Lanka and has the oldest remaining landscaped garden in Asia.
