The below zero wind chill has created a solid glazed cover from top to bottom and there will be delays in opening the lifts until runs can be re-groomed and the cover softens. Stay tuned for updates...

Thredbo Resort Yes icy conditions across the mountain. The grooming crew are doing their best to get it re-groomed and open as soon as safety allows.

Perhaps so icy its dangerous, therefore in their best interests to make sure skiers know exactly what the situation is before buying tickets?

I've never seen lifts closed at Thredbo cause of ice.
    all the tees still closed

I have mates who live around 1200metres in the valley

they said there was a solid mist last night.

Many years back they closed Antons and sponars for most of the day, when I was there in late August...... as a person hit sheet ice at the top and slid and died when hitting a rock....they spent that day running the snowmakers over the ice to break it up and opend it the next day.

I had been up there just before it was closed and it was just above the tree line and although a warm day the snow was rock hard ice all along the ridge line.

    THREDBO FAIL

Last year I came down for a day trip and Thredbo Didn't open coz of ice. By the time they opened it was all slush!

Some of us like to ski all conditions. I love the hard packed.

Please don't close the mountain just because it is icy.

We don;t blame you for what mother nature provides. Let us get the most out of it, especially when we are down just for the day.

I simple sigh at the bottom of the lifts is enough to warn people.

Who ever made the call this morning must not have a great riding ability.

Perisher do not do silly decisions like this.

    So please take this aboard!

    I have.
Last year we sat for about 2 hours waiting for Kosi to open.
And when it did we were only allowed into the Basin.
Even at about 1pm a section fairly low on Supertrail that had not be regroomed was horrific - glassy moguls - evil stuff. Our own fault for picking the wrong bit and not staying on the regroomed, and we got out of there quick smart.

I've come down the bluff with it resembling a tipped over ice skating ring. Impossible to ski. Not hardpack!!!!! ICE, SOLID, CLEAR.
Absolutely life threatening. I couldn't believe it was open - then again Thredbo do a lot of stupid things I have trouble understanding.

I'm surprised I missed that fb post back in August - I blame the snowbunnies for taking my attention off the horror of Aug/Sept.
How "the blogger" got an honest post past Marketing is miraculas.

Old thread back from the dead!

I actually find Thredbo are much more open and honest about conditions these days - they have to market the positives, but I think there is a real awareness that you can't get away with BS...

They had no point trying to put a positive spin on it that day, the mountain was entirely unrideable.

In the week I was there this year in july, they had Kosi open on web site, but it was closed twice during that week (on wind hold). It did open on one of those days, in the arvo.
