Apparently these guys are back in business this year? Anybody done this? http://www.invincible.co.nz/index.html
Yeah. as draizuh said, was keen, but sold out before we got our shit sorted. Also www.steepwhite.co.nz on Mt Larkins. I think we'll see a few more similar places in the future.
Bringing up this thread again, trying to convince @LMB to book it with me in two years. My trip got cancelled due to lack of snow. We may need friends to help full beds.
You could book a room or two of beds at one of the Clubbies and a guide for a few days if mind-blowing terrain and rope-tows are your thing. You can get brekky and dinner and accom and lifts for $600 to $1K for 6 nights 7 days (often much less for members). You could spend the heli money on a guide for the out of skifield off-piste.
Yeah but this week is a unique experience. No crowds. No long drives to a staging area. No wifi. What about you @Any you in? 2021?
That’s all possible, but wow, what an experience it would be. Sometimes it’s nice to do something out of the box. I really enjoyed being stuck in a hut with no running water on the Tasman Glacier for a week. It’s something very very different.
These sound pretty similar to heaps of the Clubbies There are no crowds, you could always get Black Diamond Tours to transport you I reckon you’d find a week at Temple with a guide ‘out of the box’
No - which is why I reckon some of the Clubbies would offer this experience. Uncrowded, ungroomed, tows, offpiste, serious terrain, isolation, camaraderie, etc. They aren’t ‘small resorts’, in my (admittedly brief) experience.
There are a few other options too, like this: https://www.adventureconsultants.co...ed-ski-touring/first-tracks-alpine-heli-camp/ But Invincible would be near the top of my list I think.
uh, I have no idea what this thread is about. But no wifi sounds like a nightmare I have occasionally! The not so fun part of owning/running/operating a one man online business is that you're always on call. The fun part is that I can ski every day, so long as I snuggle real nice with my boss all night. I've heard of a couple of NZ club fields that have internet access/etc. I have considered doing a season that way, but I've never bothered to investigate further. Lemmie know if you see any, perhaps I could be the local knowledge once you arrive. Otherwise my current 2020/21/22 plans are to look at doing Hotham for a few seasons.
Knees can be fixed, and goals need to be made to strive to be ready. Ohhhhh yeaaahhhh That SO reminds me of our Chile week (except more skinning). I think I can go out on a limb and put PBs name down for that adventure. So... @Ozgirl LMB PB @Any (if we can convince him he won’t die without working for 4 days) @Red_switch And one spot left to tempt @climberman
Here's my nephew's mates edit of their trip. Early season, low tide but gives you a good sense of the set up and terrain. Fun to be had for all.
You’ll have a blast at the Invincibles. Johnny Curin got it back up and running after he left Mt Olympus back in 2014. I’m pretty sure Johnny is still running it. Haven’t spoken to him for a while. I’ve not stayed there but know the area well and when the coverage is good the place is rockin. You don’t need guides to take you up there, book in and the heli trip up and back is included out of Glenorchy.
I don't what planet you have been living on for the last month but its almost certain that there will be no commercial skiing activity in New Zealand for 2020. Come back in 2021
He could still be keen to know the cost. Might take a year to save! Am pretty certain my trip was going to be around a grand, with chopper in and a guide/cook, all meals.
Really? That doesn't seem expensive enough? Though yes, still a year to save Expatgm thanks for the warm welcome. Well excuse the self invite but at that price YEP for sure.
Your welcome Just trying to be realistic. Be aware that some of our tourism companies won't survive this. this operation falls in to that category. They rely on overseas visitors to stay in business and it looks like our borders could be closed to foreign nationals until a vaccine is found
Awww mannnnn... This is yet another of the awesome things I had planned for 2020 that are now a no go. Grief dialled to 10 right now. Lucky I’m already drunk!
Thanks Expatgm, I'm kiwi so in that respect no issues, but regarding their future financial feasibility? Well that would be a shame. I think for the sake of optimism I'll wait and see, maybe follow LMB's lead.
Resident in Aotearoa? ‘Cos if you aren’t Jacinda’s going to stick you in a hotel somewhere for 2 weeks first.
Pleased to let you know that we are up and operating more or less as normal for the 2020 season. Though we are stoked to show overseas groups our backyard our focus has always been on the domestic market and because of this the current situation has so far had little effect on our season. Hope you all get some good turns wherever they may be and it’s nice to know people are talking about the Invincibles out there. Johnny Curin Invincible Snowfields
Yay! Now forget the excitement over the helicopter ride in. I'll be excited when you find me a plane!!
