What are you planning on doing?
Ive been looking at an expedition to Damavand. For that, late march, april would be best.
I had a friend do the resort thing in February this year, conditions were pretty good.

    Thanks webberchoked.
A friend who has family in Tehran is heading over for Christmas. I've been asked if I'd like to go for a couple of weeks.

The Iraian ski season is quite long. I did not get to ski Iran, but I was in Tehran for what was the last day of the ski season (in May) and there was still apparently awesome skiing to be had (according to some Swiss skiiers I met at hotel). Not sure ihow usual it was.

For visa, I used http://touranzamin.com/en/ , was smooth. Don't use iranianvisa.com (bad rep for visa). Key2Persia.com (Pars Tour, is also professional - and I did meet some of their guides).

I hope you plan on seeing other places in Iran - Esfahan, Yazd and Shiraz/Persepolis are a must. But I'd definantly take a trip to Mashad and the desert (if not more places, like Q'om, Kerman, Bam, Kashan, Kurdistan etc). Iran is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! It is by leaps and bounds my favourite of the 50 or so countries I've travelled in (probably to do with the fact, just how friendly Iranians are).

And if you only have Christmas period. Seriously, ditch the idea of skiing and spend that time experiencing the country. I mean it! You wouldn't regret it.

I spent 2 weeks there in 1999 and really enjoyed myself. I was lucky to see Bam before it was destroyed by the earthquake.
Loved the food and the locals.

    Thanks everyone for the replies.

Relatives of mine visited Dizin in 2005 in late December and it hadn't snowed there until the week before their arrival, and this is a resort with base elevation at more than 2600 meters!

Luckily for them they got a snow storm in the week they were there. I'd say late January-Feb would be the best time to go for reliable snow cover in drier parts of the world such as Iran.

I was there in the February and the snow in dizin was great. Shemshak was shut at the time unfortunately. However I only skied one day because the rest of the country was calling. Can't recommend highly enough Shiraz, yazd, Esfahan, masuleh, kashan, kermanshah and khandovan. Best place I've ever been, jealous you're going back mrtonya!

I went to Iran just after Nowruz in 2008 . That is the Persian spring / new year festival in March . The whole Persian speaking world stops for a week then .I like Iraani people. Some Iraani women are dreamboats :) .
