from the recent perisher enews
So today, I get to answer my question that started this thread.......yes he is! Shared a t-bar with him on Eyre. Nice guy!
FINALLY! I can put this thread to bed
Im bumping this, cos I'd like to know what the record is for a single day of vertical. Surely you could hit 15k vertical, just for a challenge by doing laps of ridge, mid week. Thoughts?
There are rumours that somebody brought in a support team in late September , when you could drive to the base of Eyre.
And managed to crank out 18,000 metres vertical in a single day.
The support team brought him food and drinks, so he ate and drank on the Tbar.
The bottles doubling as restrooms.
Many Humans are instinctively driven to be the best they can be. It's how we evolved to be the Alpha Species on this planet.
Normo and anyone chasing maximum VMs, are just another elite group of humuns with an incentive and a purpose, to be the best they can be.
When you meet Normo and the elite group that excel at VM's, you will see that they are just like you end me. They are not mythical. They are not strange.
They are just a great group of guys who have set goals. And have the fortitude to follow through.
The ridge is slow, you will get more VM's lapping a T-Bar. The trade-off is of course on a T you don't get to sit and rest. Fitness will determine what is the best way to get your max VM's.
I did 12k VM's in a day once and that was pretty full on, I went on a bit of a tour that day from Mt P to Guthega so I would guess more VM's would have been achievable if I stayed on Mt P or the Ridge etc.
Interestingly I finished up the other day with 7 laps of the V8 (104m), looking at my Dashboard that took me exactly 30min. So getting close to 1500m an hour on that lift. 12000 VM's on just the V8 could be possible on a quite day.
Back on topic, I followed @Normo (some may call it stalking ) the other morning, He was two chairs in front at first lifts on the V8, I managed to catch up after the second lift ride. He sure does have some legit lift line filtering technics
You cannot catch up with Normo. It is not humanly possible!
I've adopted the stop and wait approach. You will not wait long.
Hippo, Sara and I had an enlightening discussion on the Freedom Chair with another group of skiers last Sunday.
Normo is a fraud, allegedly !
He doesn't ski those VMs and fakes it by swiping multiple times each gate. These guys would know. This is despite not knowing what he looks like and having never skied with him! Instant experts !
They looked kind of annoyed when we pointed out Normo was the real deal, earnt every VM and was as dedicated a skier as you would ever come across. We may as well have been speaking in another language, they just didn't comprehend what we were saying.
Mind you, it is possible to beat Normo in VMs on any given day. You mightn't be able to ski the next day, but it is doable
My PB so far this season is 14,297m.
@Astro66 's PB is 5 coffee shops, the pub and Steve's
Well there wasn't much time spent turning that's for sure, my freshly waxed skis may have helped
Ha ha, I just remembered that! Weren't they a sour looking people. I added a few harsh comments at the end, they looked even more sour after that
Pfftttt ... Ski Crackenback for 4 hrs and ya done ya PB VMs for the week
Nah! Normo ain't real.
Funny isn't it. I have had several of those discussions too, even heard that I am a fraud (when people have checked the leaderboard on a chair and not known who they are talking to (giggle)).
@Normo can confirm but I think it was RustySt that did the legitimately enormous daily total VMs on Eyre. He doesn't cheat either and is a really good skier (but sadly there are a couple of people who _do_ do the multiple swiping, jumping off T's early, etc stuff - I just don't understand that, as they are just missing out on actual skiing to cheat some stupid number).
Pffft ........ Such Heathens !!!
It was :
5 "Soy Decaf Mocca Latte with a Twist" Shops.
2 "Rathkellerion Cocktail Lounges"
And a Partridge in a Pear Tree.
<shakes head> How do I Soar ........... ???
More confirmation of Normo's existence here (as if his own confirmation wasn't enough)...a real gentleman. I can't imagine keeping up with him all day...he doesn't muck around! Oh, and he gave me some great (non-cheating) tips about maximising my VM's !
Normo doesn't exist but he is to whst we aspire
Wow! I thought this thread had been locked and buried!
I can confirm that RustySt did 18,000+VM legit. Best total ever.
My best is a bit over 16,000.
I just go out each day and do the best I can.
I get the health benefits, and I enjoy the activity and the company.
It's really that simple.....as am I.....
Never met him but Normo also did some pretty impressive daily verts in Zermatt (see last seasons Europe thread). Many of the resorts in Europe (Austria especially) use the Skidata/Skiline card system and lifts are mostly gondolas & chairs so hard to cheat even if you wanted to.
Thanks Heinz.....Zermatt was amazing. Big VMs available there!
I have never met Normo, but i have seen someone who i think is him on chairs or T's either in front or behind me. i have ridden 11 days so fat this year, and only have a tiny 9600Vm Total! its not all about the numbers.
From the Europe 2015 thread.
To give you some thoughts to conjure with, Normo's skiing could be described as timeless elegance coupled with an economy of motion and legs of coiled steel!
The double swipe wouldn't help all that much as you have to wait a few minutes between swipe, which they would know if they were caught in a queue behind someone who didn't make it through the gate after swiping and watched them vainly try to swipe through again.
Eyre is a 6-7 minute round trip in good conditions with minimal crowds, double swiping would be pointless.
You failed to mention Alcohol fuelled!
I drink at Normos bar pit regularly. Hes a pool shark too. Beware.. Only a Rhino can jump the Que when Normos about.
There are dedicated people all over.
At Coronet Peak, "Tomo" became a bit of a legend after cracking the million vertical metres in a season in 2011 and went on to get almost 1.5m a couple of years later.
That sounds quite civilized to me!
Normo is the managing director and can never be seen
PS I skied with normo and astro today
What i want to know is how often does this @Normo needs to do his wax and edges.....must go through a bit!!
Great to hear you made it down for a slide TC
Hope you have a couple of great days
Does Buller have this? I would be interested to see what I got through, though it pales into insignificance here among such esteemed company.
My biggest VM in one hit could be simply standing up in the morning.
I thought you were coming to da Bo
Depends which undies he's decided to wear .
Hi Normo .For a clear Sunday head avoid the Ducks grappa.
I'm a trimmer...not a waxer!
(and Adi looks after my skis )
Bad news Normo
We are drunk with wooducks Macedonian firewater
TC is drunk, normo and I are chilling
Struggling to tell the difference between TC's drunk & sober posts.
Thick as thieves you lot
Answer to self.
Ramjet, you are a pratt. Buller does not have this due to a large number of lifts not requiring swiping. How does the lift system know where you are?
The skiing was incredible and magnificent
Boots were fixed by Jason at Larry Adler in jindabyne
He did an incredible job and they DO NOT HURT
Thank you Normo for your hospitality
Glad to help.
Fixed ..just for you
Used to be just Norm, but when he started dating the girls it became Norm, O!
or more likely O! Norm o!
