Is there enough to do at Charlotte Pass?

Hi, with the snow predicted for this weekend I have decided to head down for a long weekend next weekend. I can squeeze 4 days of skiing in, arriving the night before my first day skiing.

I'm a mid 20's skier, but haven't done a whole lot so far (only 2 trips 5 days each). I'm not interested in a party scene, so that's not a consideration. Will there be enough to keep me interested for 4 days? I really like the idea of staying on the snow, and the lodge style accommodation which seems to be unique in Australia! I've also got a keen interest in photography so will be spending some time with my camera both during the day and in the evening when the stars are out.

My alternative would be to spend 2 days at Charlotte Pass, and then 2 days at Perisher, most likely staying at the Station. Actually, now that I think about a third option would be to stick with a day trip to Charlotte Pass ($103 is a great price!!) and ski the rest of the time at Perisher - although I will be returning in August for the 5.5 day ski package there.

You can get a daytripper from Perisher to have a look at Charlottes for the day.

It's a great place for beginning skiers, but if you don't ski or snowshoe there's not much else to do but sit in the bar and look out the window. For a 4 day long weekend, there is more to do in Thredbo and you can drive all the way there from Jindabyne.

If you just turn up to the CP over snow station at Perisher without a booking, you might not get there till later in the day, especially on a busy weekend.

Thanks all for the great info! I was looking at Thredbo, but I don't want to drive from Jindabyne every day (I only have a little corolla and don't feel very comfortable driving that up the mountain -I've done it a few times when I had a Nissan Patrol). Anyway, I've found some good accommodation options at the privately owned lodges, I'm planning on staying at one of those.

I'll head up later on Satuday, then ski/explore Charlotte Pass Sunday/Monday and make a day trip to Perisher on Tuesday, then will ski Perisher on Wednesday as well (since I will be returning home on Wednesday anyway). 1x extra oversnow return trip.

I dream of boring places where there is nothing to do. It's the only way to have a good holiday break.

Charlotte Pass does not met the criteria.

Sounds like there is mostly a lot of love for Charlotte Pass! I'm booking accommodation today, and I have a few options:

Southern Alps Ski Club
Targangil
Jerrabomberra
Knockshannoch

The first two are a bit cheaper, I'm leaning towards Targangil, but I don't know anything about any of those places so it's just a guess! Any recommendations? I get the impression it would be hard to go wrong with any of those 4...

Yeh, I hate Guthega too. All those crowds and queues, i'd much prefer Front Valley with all the beginners, bogans, not to mention getting straight on the lift without waiting, Front Valley is paradise.

I had a great time away! I ended up trying something new - snowboarding, and had a great time learning. I did put the skis on for one day, and had a blast but I am glad I spent most of my time snowboarding as I think I would have gotten a little bit bored with just skiing. With more snow there would have been more runs open, however.

TarGanGil was great, highly recommended! Thanks for the tips and advice.

Requires a little effort but one of my favourites as well. Tom Gellie first took me there around 9 years ago.

The highlight of skiing Aus for me is always untracked, consistent fall line gum tree skiing. Doesnt have to be super steep. I ended up with probably 30 really good shots from this run. Above is just a taste.
