So the +1 and step-lass are off to Italy for a jaunt around May.

many one have any tips on telecoms/SIM options for Italy?

@CarveMan gave ya the good oil for France with the postal service sim, anyone got a similar for the land of la dolce vita?

    OMG,

Just swap to an Optus plan with Free International data Roaming.

No one should have this issue ever again.

Voda works great, just buy from a Vodaphone shop if possible as there are
Dodgy sim cards for sale from some vendors, when we purchaced ours in Rome
Some people where in the shop trying to get their card working when they found
Out about this. Paid about 25EURO for a month.

That 12 gb card from simcorner looks like the same one that I bought last night from another supplier except it's $8 cheaper than I paid. Very cheap if it works well.

Tried it yet? It looks very good (but you must have the right plan).

Yes, I used it in August in NZ. Extensively. I travelled with 4 others. 2 of us had medical conditions. And everyone used my phone for various reasons. to call Dr in NZ. To call family at home. To call travel insurance. To order pizza for dinner. And my phone was exclusively used for Google maps directions.

I do have the right plan. Specifically swapped to that plan.

FYI Optus release new plans and typically 20% off every May.

IMHO I've prioritised reception coverage over data allowance & cost. Over the years I've found 3UK (eg ozgirl's post #13 above) a good option when I wanted to swap telco's :)
