Re: Japan '07/'08 Season - Who, Where & When

Hmm, I am thinking that Australian's in Niseko isn't a bad thing as my Japanese is still rubbish. More Australian's, more translators [IMG] Well maybe not but will persist with this horrid to learn language. Paid up the Tokyo trip today so all is good.. Feb 12 till the 21st I think. Hanging out in Tokyo for a bit as well.

Also bought a car today as my old one was stolen..

Too scared to look at my bank account at the moment [IMG]

Change of plans forced by room availability problems. We (me, +1 and 2 mates) are off to Furano. After a couple of years at Niseko, will be good to see some more of the country and experience a different hill.

    Bring it on!

31st jan - 11th Feb.- Boo yah...thank you frequent flyers. Hakuba and Nozawa. Not sure how many days at each.
Wee problem though. I prob won't be able to get to Nagano till just after the last bus-8.20pm leaves. I'll either get there at 8.23 or 8.53 depending on what NEX/shink etc I catch.
Any one else have this problem-experience??
Is there a winter shuttle ??

What time does you flight arrive at Narita Aiport, because the Shinkansen is not the only way to Hakuba.

The Chuo taxi is an option if you can get them to reply to your email. ~$120 to drop you off at your hotel

    Thanks...that looks like the go.
Bit of a pity I had my heart set on going on the shink. Oh well I guess I can go on one the way back.

Re: Japan '07/'08 Season - Who, Where & When

For 16:45, you should be on a train/bus out of Narita Airport by about 17:45, then catch train(Narita Express or Keisei Skyliner) to Tokyo (Tokyo Station or Shinjuku Station).

You can go Shinkansen, Tokyo - Nagano, bus Nagano - Hakuba (which is too late)

Azusa Express Train Tokyo(Shinjuku) - Matsumoto - Hakuba (again too late)

OR catch the "Highland Express" bus from Shinjuku. Bus leaves 19:00, 22:30(and earlier times). The one at 19:00 arrives at Happo(Hakuba) at 23:30.

Re: Japan '07/'08 Season - Who, Where & When

If you catch the shink to Nagano you can then catch the taxi service from Nagano station to your accom in Hakuba (3000y). It needs to be booked in advance though. Get your accom to make the booking for you. You pay the taxi direct.
Booking the bus maybe a bit risky( they are often full), in case your flight is delayed.Last trip i didn't get to Shinjuku till after 8pm(same flight). I think you can pretty much just jump on the shink without a booking. Others will know more about that.

There are non reserved seats on the Shinkansen. If it's busy, you may have to stand.

Worst luck, i'm still stuck in Aus, although the family is in Goryu. They opened up the top runs at Goryu yesterday, and by all accounts the locals were out having a play in some nice fresh, dry stuff. Don't you just hate that.

Nope I don't think so, but from the poll I did a few months back the bulk of people were heading to the USA/Canada but there were still around 60+ people going to Japan from memory

The other thing too, is that the Japanese season usually starts later than North America or Europe, so there won't be any major traffic until early January, I'd say....

Thread was originally started so people travelling to Japan at the same time could possibly hook up for a ski.
It's not a general chit chat thread like the others to North America.

I'd like to see some trip reports here once the season get's going but I don't mind if it fades away, as long as the trip reports show up somewhere with lots of pics! [IMG]

OK. Landmark from Jan 1 to 13 then Gondola from March 8 to 17 (both in Niseko) Very keen to meet up for a ski with anyone who has some local knowledge about hidden bowls, insane backcountry etc.

Gsuttor .. This could be an evil plan. And as the arranger of a number of melbourne drinks nights and mini sic's I now feel obliged to take on this challenge.

I'll start a separate thread but will need input from Niseko regulars as to a good bar/restaurant for a decent gathering.

Geez, how good is that, another mini sic could get organised around 13th-14th Jan in Hakuba for those dates!

Although there should be some AAC club members around to ski with on my dates, I'd be keen to join up with fellow sno-info-ers, but nobody likes me, do I smell? [IMG]

Did SnowBenny & SnowYeti set their dates yet? I got them listed as question marks for Jan to Feb.

Ok any of you Jan guys up for a BC day with Evergreen ? We get greater savings with more people. I went a couple of years ago with a big group of sno-infoers. Unfortunately the snow sucked that day but the terrain was was just awesome. With any sort of fresh it would have been great fun.
