As I recall, they were group lessons in English.... I'll see if I can find the info for you.

Naeba is def very kid friendly. Yuzawa not so much.

Fair bit of car dodging walking down the main road at yuzawa would be pretty stressful with kids.

However, I do recall standard group lessons, because we had two people (teenagers) in group lessons.

@Sandy in regards to accommodation in Naeba would you be looking at the main Prince hotel ? And if that's the case have you found any good package deals for the Prince hotel ? The pricing I've seen for the place seems a little on the expensive side when compared to other options.

The deal with JR/ViewPlaza was always good. This was Shinkansen round trip, one night, one breakfast, one dinner, 2 lift tickets + transfers was around 22,000yen per adult.
They used to have a cheap add on, which gave you Shinkansen round trip, 7 nights, 6 days lifts, one breakfast, one dinner, + transfers for around 70,000yen. I haven't seen that since, but I'll see what I can find out.

The early bird deals are really good, we booked with ixsm and got 7 nights accom with 6 day lift ticket and breakfast for 80,000 yen per person. Got a big room in wing (3) 36 sqm.

The regular or sale prices on Jetstar tend to end around 20th December when flying into Japan, because of the school holidays. This was one reason why I booked my daughter coming into Japan last December 19th. You'll need to wait a bit, if flying Jetstar, before there are reasonable fares for that period.

The wait in KL is the biggest issue with AirAsia (along with the LCCT). The new KLIA2(replacing the LCCT) should be open by then, but you'll still be stuck there for 5-7 hours with a little kid.

Ok, more summer/autumn swells rather than winter. Still, warrants further investigation. Thanks.

I think there are waves in winter , would have been this year for sure
but like any island around that latitude it works better in autumn and spiring... (trades )
It had a bit of scene with all the yanks stationed there back in the day.
Considering two of the best surf destinations in the world are not too far away (guam, carolinas)

ok ive sorted my dilemma, relative to xmas
air Asia SYD to KL . cheap. a few flights
KL to Haneda . Cheap a few flights
    KL airport hotel. Cheap.

Reality is with child you either fly direct or break the journey and add sleep.
for 100usd or so for a airport hotel i'll happily stay at KL airport and fly 12 hours later .
No rush when youre going for a month. Sleep a priority

It's so easy to go through immigration at KL, that I got out and took the shuttle to KLIA just so I woudln't have to spend 5 hours in the LCCT transit/departure lounge!!!!!LOL

Our kids normally sleep really well on flights so they come out the other end full of beans ready to go. But for me it's a different story, I don't sleep much on flights, so when I get to the other end I'm looking for that bed.

Having one last ski today to use the last 2 pre-purchased lift tickets. I am expecting extreme spring conditions. There is still lots of snow but it will be soft as it has been pretty warm over the last few days.

So it was ok. Soft but not to bad. I have skied much worse in Aus. Really only one run open but we sneaked a run where the locals were doing race training.
