What site are you using for this info?
Probably SnowJapan. Yuzawa Now.
Try googling "xxxxxx now"
I used to read the snowjapan reports & after being there last year I'm looking for more accurate data, they as usual in Japan under report we had days where they reported 10cms at Kagura to find 30cm+ etc & don't get me wrong I prefer that to over reporting as some do
7 day forecast for Happo is looking very tastie. Sorry for not posting image.
Over 2 metres to Sunday!
Yep that was the one
The lake at Tashiro has frozen for (I think) the first time this season now
windytv shows the wind shifting to NNE for Hokkaido around 16 January - does anyone know if this would favour Kiroro?
I don't think winds matter too much for Hokkaido as there is less sea in between it and Russia.
Zao 100% open today for the first time this season. Snow Monsters are starting to form
Had a few cm earlier today here in Niseko. Been sun out for last few hours tho. Did the gates at annupuri desperately need a top up there
What are your thoughts on Hokkaido for the next fortnight Mr Bean?
Sorry but not near as much as Honshu unfortunately. 20-40cm for Niseko over next 15 days.
But Nagano area and Niigata area has several mountains 200cm+ over next 15 days...
thanks, and to think I elected to go to Hokkadio this year for reliability
Jus arrived in Hakuba. About 10cm of heavy fresh at Happo. Seems to have softened the ice that everyone has been talking about. I wasn't here last year but the conditions are pretty dismal at the moment. Significantly worse than anything I have seen and I have done Christmas trips multiple times. Currently there is high cloud and not much wind. Hoping the storm kicks off tonight.
Me too. Me too.
I'm going to Hokkaido mid-Feb, so not too worried, but the season thus far for both Honshu and Hokkaido is obviously below average (based on obs in this thread and sources like snow-forecast).
November started the season off very well, but it's been really slim snowfall since then.
For all, I hope we get a return to the usual/typical snow bearing patterns, because the worry factor is creeping up a tad; nobody likes to watch a 'dud' season unfold.
And what makes it a bit worse is that our travelling group was tossing up between Tahoe/Jackson and Hokkaido.
I would not be worried about mid-feb in early/mid Jan.
That sounds about right. The first part of the FWT is on tomorrow just above Happo, and had they actually got the 30cm they reported at resort level, I think they'd have had to postpone. They might still do if something big happens tonight.
The south end of the valley got 20 cents yesterday (storm from the south) and 10 last night, but its fallen on next to nothing.
Blue bird day in nozawa about 30 + cm up high didn't seam to be many people but heavily tracked after 1-2 hour of first lifts
Jackson Hole currently has 293cm at the top, and Heavenly 193cm
Grand Hirafu & Hanazono "lean early season" only 235cm at the top!!!!!
Sun's gone and it's started snowing in northern Tohoku.
This is true. Looking forward, its not overly snowy for hokkaido unless some of those weird ridges interrupting the northern flow move away
Hahahahaha I skied freshies till 12 .
Heavily. Dare I say here we go!?
Just need to know where!!! ^^
Bluebird in minakami. Shin deep up top
just had a snow flurry here in Echoland. Temp at the station is 5 degree's. what tha.
Thunder snow in Hakuba. Weird bean bag balls of ice falling as I came out of the laundromat. Feels proper cold on the wind for the first time this trip.
All morning ......
I arrive to hakuba tomorrow, keen to see how much snow we get.
How is it looking at the base for most resorts now? Still probably need another 1m to fill everything in
Currently reading the "Teachings of Buddha" supplied by hotel ,maybe tomorrow I'll no where to go.
if I had a pure clear mind I would stay on topic
Might take a day trip to Matsumoto tomorrow. Resume skiing on Thursday with more snow.
Poor at happo. 47 and goryu superb today. Tsugakie good yesterday
Snowing in village quite well now
Next few days should be good
Ok, so temperatures on the Niigata coast have taken a big dive on the last two hours....
Sekiyama, Takada, have dropped 5-6 degrees.
Hakuba has dropped from 5.6 down to 0.2 degrees.
Iiyama (Near Nozawa) has dropped 4 degrees, Shinano-machi (south of Myoko) 5 degrees!!!!
Here it comes!!!!
Coming in nicely now up near Tsugaike. Already covered the road outside.
Rain just turning to fat flakes at tenjin. Snowing up high
Near Lake Aoki on route 148 at about 900m:
Saw Aomori on the news... Absolutely chucking down there this afternoon
A quick 10cm already here near Tsugaike. Died off over the last hour. Hopefully another burst overnight.
Your road image is coming up as the new Tsugaike viaduct, Sandy. That's the cam that shows snow most often. The Lake Aoki cam is labeled "Yanaba" on the camera map like the ski resort. I'll try and embed it here.
The snow has eased off in Hakuba central compared to earlier, but the night is still young!
For anyone choosing where to go, the fresh we've had in the last couple of days has been sticky and is perfect mogul-making snow for the usual places you see em on piste. Happo's also got the FWT tomorrow. If its like any of the large Japanese events, expect someone shouting almost nonstop into a PA while its on.
Looking at the latest sat pic it looks like it will start belting down about midnight
Moderate snow hasn't stopped falling for the last 3 hours or so in hirafu!! I'd be interested to see cm levels tomorrow!! Also eagerly awaiting system coming through!!
That niseko forecast is just way out. 20-40 a night maybe. It's going to see a lot of snow over the forecast period.
At this rate... woah! Its looking that way.
****Echoland fresh snowfall update****
8cm at village level from 4-7pm tonight. Stopped atm. Skied Norikura today, Cream still to be found if you look.
Norikura was awesome today. Sunshine and knee deep pow. All of about 15 people on the mountain
