If you are prepared to pay almost anything for Yamazaki 12YO, Vintage Cellars (NSW & Vic) has it for 20% off as part of a selected range of Whiskies. Brings it down to $240 and given I've seen shops ask $350 for it this seems almost reasonable. Personally I'd prefer 3 x $80 bottles of decent Scottish SMs but I'm not much of a connoisseur.

It's a lovely drop the Yam 12, but not for $240!

Buying it Japan at the moment is almost impossible and really expensive. With the exchange rate $240 is a good price for Aus. Not that I would buy it :)

I like Sandy's idea too. There are gems among the non-aged products...

So reading through this thread I was surprised to see how expensive age statement Japanese whisky is. It reminded me that on my one and only trip to Japan about 15 years ago I had picked up a small bottle of Suntory whisky (250ml??) checked and found it in the back of my drinks cabinet. Have now finally opened it and am thoroughly enjoying it.

I did but only after opening! Mrs Paw was very annoyed with me but I’m glad I didn’t know exactly how much they’re selling for. Gives me something to savour after a good day on the snow:cool:

My local Red, White and Amber gets an allocation of Hibiki - it's now $250 a bottle!! I think I paid $125 less than a few years ago. I went for The Chita instead - very nice.

Have you tried that one ? I'm very keen to know..

I have one myself but never opened it as I figured it to be a tourist Whisky - but it looks great on any shelf.

Maybe I am better off not knowing because if you tell me it's good I will be forced to open it..

Haha, that's one of the main reasons why I got it(to make my room look nicer), so I haven't opened it yet:p

When visiting a bottle shop which I might do frequently I always check to see if it stocks Yamasaki 12YO to see what outrageous price is on it. It automatically gives you a sense of its pricing. Anyway we have a clear winner and it wasn’t an actual bottle shop but Tokyo Mart in Northbridge, Sydney. I give you:

Yeah our local Fujimart in sMelbourne jacked it's prices of all Japanese alcohol late last year. Beer was reasonably priced, now a rip off. Whiskey, forget about it.
