Temps down to .2 at Buller. Any hope of snow or am I dreaming!
Snow on the South Perisher cam at 6am.
^ with some build up... I'm very happy with that result considering the temp and where this moisture came from.
Some wet snow falling in Smiggins now, a bit of wind but not ridiculously so. Too dark still to see how windy it is on the actual hill but the lodge roof and windows aren't rattling at all (yet) which is a positive sign, although I think the wind is supposed to be building during today (isn't it?).
Our driveway and parked cars have 1-2cm of snow settled on them since I went to be at 10pm. Seems to be just barely snowing now, that is definitely falling as flakes but turning to water immediately on hitting the lounge room windows.
It looks as though Perisher above 1800 has dodged a bullet & ended up with a net gain.
Perisher reporting 7cm at village level. Expect more above 1850m
Been raining all night at Thredbo Village. Woke me up at 4.30am absolutely hammering down on the lodge's tin roof. Hope it is snowing and sticking higher up..... watching Euro final for distraction.... and waiting for some COLD....
Hoon Nine not looking to bad...
I think I would have to scrape a fair bit together to get to 7cm outside the lodge at 1680m. Photo from just now (also posted in the Perisher forum)
Note: I am skiing anyway - with wife, father-in-law and two of my kids, so good times will be had regardless. The froth is strong with me
Use the froth Ted.
Mixture of snow and rain overnight at Hotham. Raining now with a lot of wind. Might be a good day to play cards!
Hotham snow report - 7cm of wet snow overnight and currently snowing steadily.
25mm in the Perisher guage.....@ 1738m
Looking at the cams seems we did pretty well, so far , relative to what could have been.
Temps already plus 1.
The lodges at Davenport must be around the freeze level. In the last half hour there has been snow, sleet and rain. The wind is the only constant.
Air in western VIC is cold now so looks like snow Above 1500m from here on. Much better than anticipated.
Can't forget this air is inbound North (not west).
Incoming! Stand to attention please:
Poured all night at Buller - BOM says 23mm. Howling wind - everything on wind hold except BB and the carpets.
So glad I stayed for school trials........
Bro, this can be diverted into the BBQ thread but what are your thoughts on the two proceeding nodes at 10 and 8pm?
Standing to attention under the White Ensign at RAN.... cold but not cold enough....only accumulation is running off!
I think I made mention of them earlier (one to arrive around the 18-19th?) but havent had a look all weekend. I'll take a peek later tonight if I get time.
yep im at davenport too and its not very pleasant.....pity im driving off the hill in an hour. brutal day out there
Obviously Colours was late today. Run the OOD in for lack of punctuality.
and lesser node at 5'0 will be worth watching too.
But you can see how much colder Mt Gambier is!
That first one is not a pretty scribble.. Asking a lot of orographic effect with that. How many hours between Gambier and Mlb you reckon?
Just remember Gambier was at 17Z time, while Melbourne was at 11Z; we should have a new Melbourne AP sounding by lunchtime.
This thread has gone a bit off track....
Can anyone report real time obs on the ground at the moment?
Is it still howling and foul in Victoria / SA?
Mild, overcast morning here in Sydney. Felt colder about an hour ago than it did at dawn though......
I'm seeing current temp of 13.4, feels like 11.4 in Frenchs Forest
Supposed to be going for a balmy high of 20 today and tomorrow.....
Wet at Perisher - sleet and hail earlier. I observe that I am fairly saturated!
11.3 Degrees Mt Beauty, a little sun poking through occasionally. We had 31mm in last 24hrs and has been quite windy overnight and early this morning. Wind has currently eased. Rain has cleared for now also.
Give it 6 hours and it will be north west by south west. But looks ugly since i posted earlier.
Sunny on the MP.
7 degrees in Adaminaby with large patches of blue sky and also flashes of sun. No snow forecast on MetEye for here until tomorrow evening so applies to Selwyn... W
Still super windy at Buller but the rain cleared out this morning and the high cloud is patchy - even some sunny breaks. Just noticed temp have dipped in to the negs now.
Are we thinking we've cleared the worst of this pre-frontal band now?
No more rain in store?
Looks that way
Rain just stopped at Thredbo for the first time all morning...will watch closely.
Looks like a volcano of cold air.
Can report howling gale in Adelaide Hills, trees down and power out all over the place.
Not terribly cold either
well that's a fantastic result IMO. Roughly only 25mm across the major vic resorts. could've been a shite sight worse than that!
We have been lucky with the pre-frontal, some of it falling as snot instead of r@@n. Beautiful sunny morning in Latrobe Valley, but wind is strengthening with some big gusts.
Perisher has copped 45mm
13mm since 9am today , temps at 2 degs .
On a snow pack that was already ummm, marginal .
but what about all that extra perisher vert? surely that's helped them and it's legit blower pow pow at Perisher and top of Thredders?
The rain is cleared at Buller, winds still howling though.
Temperature is sitting at freezing level
Gale force winds earlier this morning up here
Ha , definitely legit blower snot at best.
Will be the lovely Aussie Pow that melts when it lands on you and soaks thru everything as reported by @Lady Penelope #31 ^
Thredbo Top saying 0.1 deg. & 7mm
Backs up AXS R 850's modelling
500's are in the low -20's.
Links there (for others) but I know you're on top of all this.
edit , as the pressure starts to drop then the biz will begin.
Well I was going for 30-40mm of prefrontal, with isolated heavier falls, so not too far off the mark there.
Just got a lot colder in Thredbo Village. Hail not rain too....
