AT the going down of the sun we get accumulation at Wilsons Valley cam.
Waxing irons do it to me.
Ever gone to the mountains in a Honda Jazz ? with someone else driving ?
Stay on topic.
The low is in Bass Strait. Flow turned Westerly about midday, so temps have been dropping. Swinging SW as we speak. Temps optimal but not huge moisture content in the tail. IMO. Not complaining. Just an observation.
That said. Next front nicely queued up. Yeah baby. Bring it on.
that low near WA is a thing of beauty
Sitting in my little caravan at Jindabyne now and it's been raining for the last 3 hours. When I left Perisher it was -1 and steady snow.
There's actually another low centre just off Adelaide, shown in the 4pm mslp chart that's prolonged the hook a bit further. Not fully SW yet. Assuming this is contributing towards the bumped précis values for Nth Vic for the remainder of this system.
The 2 beasts are trying to merge. Squeeze that High pressure baby.
Astro I just pulled that map up and saw that system of WA. That will be interesting
I observe the cams look awesome. Tonight is going to make great accumulation viewing and will surprise. Sicky on Friday!!
I drove though Alpine way the other day and its amazing how topography effect the weather even if you think 2200m isnt that high as mountains go but it was dry and sunny on East side and I could see snow being blown off main range above Thredbo valley and when I got to the West side was cloudy and some periods of rain.
I think it may peak early though. IMO.
Probably - but look at that moisture that is being pulled in out of the tropics and heading south into the great southern ocean. The only place in the world where the front can circulate around and around again over sea, unhindered by land influences is the great southern ocean.
Once that moisture gets down there it is sucked into the southern ocean conveyor belt. So even if we dont get it this time, it will be back in about 4 weeks approx
Get a couple of these systems lining up who knows.
But this year is looking more promising with the line up of systems.
Sometimes you get these strong blocking highs in the bight that push everything south.
This year we are seeing some nice strong fronts and some weaker highs.
So the systems are smashing into the SE corner.
Dragged this out for those who dare to dream
I'm only seeing eye rotation in the Strait. I'll try and whip up a gif.
Any picks for next best free upload mob? I observe my observations can't be uploaded due to fee increases
Eye of the storm in burn city right now, I'm 3 flights up in Essendon and not a breath of wind. Stunning evening skies all around IMO
Skied it. Had to catch a shuttle at Sawpit: NPWS stopped all cars there (pre skitube) and what a day.. massive. That was a big big season.
Thanks for the memories, T.
not as good as Jo Beth rolling around on the Bugs Bunny couch back in the day
but good enough for now.
solid right thru the layers
Still plenty of moisture in the tail over SA, 30mm + in some parts of the state in 6 hours to 3pm and I got drenched getting to the car to leave work. I still see much potential from this system tonight into tomorrow..
Ask and you shall receive:
You can link direct, no need for photobucket
And look at the clockwise (Low Pressure) domination all the way down to Polar region.
I don't see another 30mm in the Alps, from the Sat pics, in this front. 20mm maybe. Would love to be wrong.
Tis very localised as well, you'll either get it all or you'll get almost nothing. Hoping the resorts are in the right spot!!
Was my first year on the snow. As a skier back then (snowboards hadn't been invented). Just assumed it was always like that, with heaps of snow. Got a rude shock the following year.
Stay on topic. Observations for this weather system only.
I observe many forumites feelin the Minty Vibe. I ski mostly in Austria where 30cm barely raises an eyebrow. Here we get a buzz from 10-15 cm So i observe passion and obsession with balance and an appreciation of minimal probability.
Sorry Claude here comes the flood .
Two bands crossing central Vic. 1st one looks good for Vic and NSW, the 2nd bigger band might just clip Hoth/Falls but looks a NSW special.
I observe I'd be anxious too, Duncan is well aware you and @DidSurfNowSki put a hit out on him last weekend and revenge will be sweet!
I observe I'm not sure what I'm looking forward to more, you lot suffering or waking up to 20 cents of fresh snow tomorrow.
Fast games a good game . Oops off topic again.
And rather cold and wet underneath
I observe my skis coming out of storage.
Really is rather beautiful.
The fam down in Preston Beach and Albany will no doubt be slammed...
About 3cm of snow has settled in Thredbo Village since about 4 pm. Wind has dropped. Snowing very lightly at present. Drinking red wine in front of the fire seems to make it look even nicer - funny that.
Check this guy out....big flakes comming down ....were visible from groomers headlights!you could see the square appearance on the lens....I think it means cold powder snow flakes.....
6 degrees in Blackheath, radar suggests moisture around 5-7am tomorrow morning.
That fish hook off WA to early IMO, 81 would line up In the Bight non stop
Nice the 256km view shows it heading directly over nsw resorts.
When do we think it will get there?
Beautiful memories 81, main reason ski tube was built. big storm 80 /81 road closed Saturday arvo, everybody stayed overnight in the Perisher center & surrounding lodges, no power
bout 90mins away I reckon. maybe 2hrs.
I have also been watching them Ubiquitous Steve - slowest groomers ever. Think i'll apply fro a job!
Better than reality tv checking out this live cam...just one more with the little crystal squares!
Hopefully another 5 - 10cm in that and lingering snow showers after that. BOM still going for 5 - 15 tomorrow so 30cm look around the mark for P. Wind looks to be increasing again so some nice wind blown around. Should improve conditions considerably.
