You can see the tropical moisture feed; cold air is still a fair way away.
CC, are you suggesting we will see more pre-fronta r%$n then first thought?
No. Really for the predictions thread, but perhaps 10mm rain below 1800m (wet snow above).
Moisture about to hit the hills .. if people are up there , can you keep us updated as to what it is falling as
Thick fog at Hotham this morning but I have seen a few fresh snowflakes falling.
The fog has lifted a bit now and the snow is still coming down very lightly though slightly more consistently.
Looks like some flakes (okay maybe sleet) falling at Falls.
I observe some warmth in NSW high country atm... but could change... forecast says:
Tuesday Cloudy. Patchy rain developing during the morning, increasing in the west during the afternoon and evening. Snow about the Alps above 1700 metres in the morning, lowering to 1500 metres later. Winds N 20 to 30 km/h.
Well, it's snow at the moment, even at Buller.
Witnessed some fat flakes I'd say!
Vic majors all below freezing for the time being, Buller actually the coldest. Anything that doesn't fall clear is a good result.
Anyone got any obs from the NSW resorts at the moment? Interested to see if that moisture on the radar is falling as snow
A few cms by the looks of it at Buller..
Perisher AWS saying 1.2oC so I'm tipping rain below about 1800m. Thredbo top station at -1.
settling on the cedarwood table.
www.hotham.co settling nicely now with some big flakes sticking to the Snowbird roof
It's wet but at least it's snow, at least down to here at Davenport, DP looks quite damp.....
Crikey just saw the temps............ warm.
its the warming of the atmosphere by the sun........
Cloud has rolled over and light wind but no snow yet in PB.
Looking wet below 1500.
Hotham Village, bottom of Falls (Eagle & Cedarwood) show some rain now. VS square at Buller seems ok, perhaps rain snow mix?
I observe it has just started to snow at PB now, fairly soft and fat flakes, getting heavier as I type.
Any Thredbo village reports coming in? I'm heading down again this weekend so have a vested interest.
shouldnt have a prob by the weekend , be plenny of fresh by then
-1.2 up the top at Hotham and -0.6 down here, definately still falling as snow, but wet on the window.
been snowing all morning at DP.
wettish and trying hard to settle.
heading back to melb this afternoon.
If there is any rain worth noting that roof will clear fast.
Its not rain rain and its not snow snow
Its not going to improve the snowpack, but will saturate it
IMO the cold pool is near the SA, Vic border at mo
Bom has 700 pa uppers proged low enough for snow. The initial wetness may help to bind the snow pack. There is some weak layers on south faces.
I'm watching that new table and 2 bench seats on the VS cam - certainly not showing any accumulation of snow. LBS cam looks damp too. There's probably not a lot of precip to be honest.
Wet snow at Hotham Central and around Heavenly. Visibility is okay but clouding in from time to time. Defrosting at Swindlers with a hot chocolate!
Farkin windy as well!!
So farken windy!!
Snow is a lot drier now, little moisture on the window..
Thanks for all your fantastic 'on the spot' reports.
Really enjoyed them!
Weather. Conditions. Even his own "snow cam".
At Thredbo right now. Rain down in the village but really snowing heavily up around 1850 meters.
Bottom half of the super trail is very wet and the top half is a windy white out.
Going to head back out in a hour or so. Will report back
just driven over the top of hotham .snow settling above 1700m,blizard at very top.
very careful driving required
Awww, shucks, thanks guys. It's just so interesting to see the storms build and the different results we get.
Back on topic i reckon we have about 3-4cms so far on the septicmeter, but i think i missed the first cm or two before i cleared it back to base....
Blizzarding again...been very cold in Sunbury all arvo...snow clearing operators must be getting weary up at Hotham..
doubt if I can focus on any topic at moment cos my head is spinning.
.good cookieman thanks for post..
Was very wet snow today at perisher lower down, minimal wind at Front Valley. Towards the top was some decent wind, dryer snow and with minimal visibility.
Car read -1 when leaving Perisher car park at 3:20PM
Seriously chucking it down now at Hotham, accumulating nicely.
Some bigger flakes starting to come down now at Hotham Central. I have cleared the rail in my window with the hope of taking some good accumulation pics (of course they will never be as good as the septicmeter from @Camelot!)
Haha, another point of view is always good, just add beer! Will update at 2am with hopefully something to show..
Looks a rain/snow mix at Falls judging by cedarwood.
Temps still pretty marginal in Victoria. All seem to be slightly warming up.
Buller at 0, Falls at -0.1. Hotham, as usual, colder than both -0.9
Mt William has been cold all day long, currently 1.7C, seems to indicate the colder atmosphere is well to the west.
Still raining very lightly in the village at Thredbo and snowing up above the cat sheds.
Cover still in great condition all be it a bit soft down low
At PV. Looks like the moisture started around 12pm. But a little warm then. But headed in the right direction now. And moisture building nicely.
I observe a BIG blob of moisture on the BOM radar about to hit the mountains...any predictions of how low the snowfall level might be at Perisher/Thredbo on this one?? Thinking of driving from Lake Crackenback to Thredbo for dinner and wondered what the road might be like on the drive back.
at these temps you will be fine at that altitude tonight. ie Lake Crackenback to Thredbo.
