I would call it more of a sleety mix. At Buller.
Its Australia. Always bet on pre-frontal rain, rain in general and over egged predictions.
It is 4deg!!!! Warmer at hotham than yr.no currently prog!!!!
Notwithstanding that, still neg at falls/hotham and there's moisture around....
I cannot observe, the live video cam at base of FV that has been there in previous years. Can anyone find it? Thought it was on MW perisher live cams list?
Now it is proper snowing at Buller.
Edit: Back to sleety mix.
I observe this as one of the funniest observations threads in years
Really clutching at straws here
At least there's no base to wash away whatever pre-frontal rain has fallen
Tomorrow all will be alright in the universe, when we get proper snow.
I agree 4 square
My safe formula is Janes Max totals @4 days out x 0.6
springlike here in Sydney...
Relax folks like four pages of frenetic posting.....
Models,models models ??
Just concentrate on your breathing......anyway who in their right mind would subject themselves to the Ballarat Climate.......of course that report was dodgy!!
Think Blizzard not bloody Ballarat.......just say slowly the word Blizzard....formulate the picture of a Hotham Rd Closure for three days.....yes Blizzard.......if you all breathe slowly and focus your minds ....then Blizzard will come shortly.....
It's cool in Caroline Springs......roads damp but not freezing like yesterday....definately a day for dogs to be up and working and not hiding in their kennels.
I observe a conga line has formed at the Wentworth T under the low cloud
Snowing at the base of Falls Express
Oops. Lucky I didn't call it Billia Bullet
@Froff Life how's the skiing/boarding out on the Buller slopes?
I saw that before.... don't you just love school holidays in a marginal start to the season...
I observe consistent snow at smiggins but only smallish flakes and the wind is so strong nothing really accumulating on the skiing slopes. West facing slopes will be doing better. I also observe the empty tequila and butterscotch schnapps bottles the wife got out last night at 10 pm are empty. They were unopened. Yummy mixed together on ice though
Cedarwood Cam ?? Now that's a worry......
Wet and windy. We lapped LBS a few times and the snow is holding up ok over there, but we have had to retreat to an early coffee break as we are soaked.
Bourke street is hectic and very slushy
More wintery mix at falls..I reckon 5cm has fallen in past 24 hrs. Bushes between the runs are getting covered
they rename that thing every week.
Not quite fetching from where we'd like.
This at 850.
As Blowey said above we need a decent truckload to fill in all the ground cover , especially in the bc.
See what happens in the next 24 or so....
Would've thought the Main Range would've done okay out of last night and today?
Can't see from Kosci cam , and I'm at sea level.
I'll get in touch with my operatives later today.
They're doing border cross races.
Would've done just fine, maybe a 5 or so cents going of the AWS temps and avg of precip registered.
Puking on Cruiser cam
That could become another 'iconic' Australian snow picture.
I'd struggle to call that "pukage"
Well its seems to have stopped - looks like that's going to be the theme of the next couple of days!
Looks like plenty of wet snow falling at PV at present. A day of slop would be good ahead of a night of better quality. Tmw daytime will be the season decider. If it's rain then forget it - June may well have been peak season. But if it can snow all day tmw and avoid clear stuff then we are in there with a chance for an average season yet.
Definitely. No chance of any more snow for the rest of the season.
Some wet snow falling on and off at Perisher from 7:30 this morning. Better up high however MT P was on hold so could not gauge what the top of the hill received. But good to see some wet snow beyond the snow making areas up high.
Very strong winds so wind hold for several of the resort chairs. Other chairs operating at reduced speed.
Horrendous crowds jockeying for limited lifts.
Warm back in Moonbah-currently 11 degrees!
MEL skew-T for 9am looks pretty ordinary with FL around 1950m
That said Mt Gambier this morning pings it down to ~1700m, so it's out there! Looks like a change early evening if you ask me.
It needs a base real soon. Otherwise it'll be just catch up all season - like last year was. August starts to bring wind and rain and so what if it finally dumps in October like it did in 2016 - it's just a ghost town by then with just a few hardy souls going BC.
Agree... but that is a different thing...
Extra altitude seems to be working for Hotham & Falls, Buller In trouble
Both Perisher and Thredbo indicate Snowing via Instastories. Looks like a few flakes on Sou-Peri cam too.
Except they're all the same height.
A minor detail that so many punters seem unaware of!
Anyway, off topic.
Bottom corner of Merritts cam appears to be fighting the brown but losing. Wintry mix it appears.
I observe that the nature of observations is that they change, and historical observations hold less value than current observations in this case.
I also observe that any claim of 17cm is such a pile of BS that it has to be an error of some kind and rightly corrected.
Thirdly, I observe wind hold. Wind hold everywhere.
Fourthly, I observe EPIC lines, school holidays+epic passes+wind hold +17cm reports(well, maybe not)=EPIC.
They took it away
Plenty of Buller is below 1600m, not much of falls is.
I was going to post in the predictions thread sometime back but I was too afraid as there are so many more pre-eminent snow weather guru's than me that have fallen out of the sky and are all pumped up on jellybeans - but I observe that this is really more like one big weather system not two individual systems.....
Me thinks that persistent high will not do us any favours and it will continue to keep knocking those brave little low pressure systems on the head.
