I've been watching the Cam most of the day here in the office. Persistent, wet slushy snow.

With the amount of traffic around that bottom corner which leads into the lodge was never going to hold up.

I would love an update from someone who's been up the hill?

The snow at falls has been reasonably consistent over the past few hours. Village roads getting covered

I observe that we just had a very sharp drop in temp, a cold wind has now picked up, and dark fast moving speckled clouds have appeared overhead.

I'm no meteorologist, but I watch quite a bit of weather, and this looks like the usual cure for SDS to me!

Especially considering the Antartic-like temps we've had in the past coupla days!
Winds (Sydney) are currently NW/WNW, with the Alps starting to record W winds after a steady NW flow.
Mt William (VIC) is still only recording W winds.
    I hope the L isn't heading SE :( :(

I observe that the more I look at the live cam at Merrits the more concerned I am! Lots of white stuff that looks like snow but I don't see any of the brown patches on the old T Bar run, filling in which would suggest a winter mix at best.

I am liking the look of the radar. Once it gets dark I am thinking we will see some accumulation overnight above 1600m.

Well went out skiing at 12pm here at Buller.
And it hasn't stopped pouring rain. Sleet/freezing rain falling above Tyrol Flat. Very windy on ABOM and Skyline, and tops of Wombat and The Fox lifts.
All skiable snow manmade, non-manmade areas pretty bare below say 1600m.
LBS skiing well, with patches in the usual spots. Shakey is okay in the manmade areas. Fairly narrow part in the middle.
All lifts ski on except Blue Bullet, only a few people braving the rain.
Snow itself was nice and soft, with a few exceptions. Managed to grab untracked snow out wide on Playground. Apart from the endless rain, it wasn't a bad day.

    Pics when I defrost ;)

Temperature at Basin is -0.5 so the temperature at Merrits would be slightly above freezing. Snow falling on snow will be sticking. Snow falling on exposed bushes and grass will not be sticking yet. Sould improve once the sun goes down.

Olympic Cam at Perisher shows it starting to stick up high and i'd say its sticking from Bluff upwards at Thredbo. So when the temperatures drop and the westerlies pick up this means snow will start to drift in from higher up.

Temperatures forecast to drop by lunchtime tomorrow by which time we'll start seeing that slow moving fluff in the bight heading across the mountains.

may just be wishful thinking but the brown patches on cruiser cam seem to be slowly disappearing. Especially on the bottom left of the picture.

As mentioned, Olympic starting to show accumulation.
I like to look at the Guthega cam also (close to Main Range), and it's finally starting to show white gathering too!
Winds still persistently NW at Thredders top station, but temps trending down.

    Re Thredbo:

Wet, and raining properly all the way from the village to the top. Over 6 degrees in the village.

Skied a few runs, now back at the ranch with fire on.

Fun but wet. Wind less than expected (quite a bit of north in it).

Some sleet and flakes blown in when +1 and I went for drive over DHG to Siberia. All gone by the return trip. Some slush on road above 1550m.

    Sigh

Miserable 36 hours here at Buller. Dropped the kids off at the cinema and it's still p*ssing down. Man made has taken a beating today.
My weather station currently reads 0.8C and 8.7mm since 9am and pressure rising.

Tumbarumba ( machinery shed 832m asl )............consistent light rain since 4.30pm ( prior to that was patchy) , wind swinging a little from northerly to NNW and temps starting to dive ( -0.8c). Need the wind to keep swinging to WNW and temps to drop some more. Dogs liking the fireplace tonight.

You do realise, there was skiing at Buller today. It really isn't that bad. You have to be optimistic in bad circumstances. And besides, we will just have twenty snowfactories stacked on top of each other, when climate change bites.
