Basically Perisher/Thredbo gets the best falls, Hotham/Falls are okay, and Buller is abysmal.
Nice moisture mass passing over the Alps. Speckle tells us even colder air behind. But it is dryer.
The low is rotating just south-east of Tassie. So the tail coming in from the SW is our biggest hope.
Nope, just normal rain ATM here in the Village.
It ain't -2, I can tell you that right now!
yeh, I know, but if it was -2C, that's what you'd get.
Sigh, that's Buller for you... anyway I am going out skiing in the rain. If it snows, I'll post.
For all the doom and gloom, it's fantastic at Merritt's. Still coming down well. Freshies abound.
I observe big, fat, lovely snowflakes on the cruiser cam
It ain't doom and gloom in the NSW resorts, across the border though...
Good accumulation of base building at Perisher with shrubbery almost covered in sections. Better than I was expecting & lots of happy positive skiers patiently accepting the queues. Bring on more snow & cold temps.
The next 4-6hours is where it is at for good accumulation. After that it dries out to lighter showery stuff but that will blow around and fill in some holes over the next few days until the next bit of action on Friday.
an WA takes another one for the team....
Eyre Kiosk (Perisher) about 30mins ago
Now that makes me
You aaaaaaaaaaaaarken beauty!
Post of the thread ..
With more solid bands moving head on for NSW resorts on the radar.
Seems mother nature is deciding to prove my rant stupid!!
Picnic table report looks cold......good to see it accumulating somewhat in Perisher.......
If only....( part 2)
still looks like some joy for the Alps.(glass half full)
Don't want to be the negative nancy but temps are on their way back up (Perisher). Back to 0.7C in the village.
Snowing heavily at smiggins- here at top of only tow open
good that it is still snowing,
what is looking like up the main hill
Cruiser cam shows pukage!
they look like hovering all week.
Observing it might be time to crank the splitboard out for her maiden voyage next week
I observe decent pukage at Perisher. Wet stuff but we will take it. Perisher reporting 5cm at 11am. About right.
Radar sending westerly blob staright to NSW hills, good on em', poor old Vic tho...
As per usual ops amusing themselves by forcing everyone in the village to use the begginers ripe toe while there is sufficient cover on the main slopes
yer another cuppla hours will be minty.
let's hope the temps keep dropping until then.
I observe everyone who complained of "season 2017 is over" and "this is going to be a lean season" has some what settled.
It will only get better from here as we head further into July.
I observe this system was always borderline, and was never a real game changer (IMO).
All going as planned (more or less) at this point in time (again IMO)
At Perisher I observe about 10 cms snow before 8 am. And a further 10 cms since. Strong winds and at times almost blizzard conditions at Blue Cow. Parked around 8 am so snow on car is since then. Still snowing heavily at 11:30.
It's wet snow and that's a great base builder!!
EDIT. Heavy snow down to Wilsons Valley circa 1450 m ASL.
A bit of wet snow at the top of Baldy at Buller
non stop white stuff at BC for the past 3 hrs. Back to FV for lunch and to check out the conditions there.
Right now trying / succeeding snow in Thredbo car park.
Radar seemed to indicate ppt north of Vic Alps steaming east towards NSW Alps....
Kelpieboy must be observing some action shortly as it dumps over Tumbarrumba......working dogs may need their coats on.....
Looks like it's ganna be a wet arvo in Albury/Wodonga.........
I observe the prevailing weather conditions will make the drive back from Perisher this afternoon a lengthy affair !
This big patch on the radar looks like it is heading straight for the mountains,
I observe the temperature in Perisher is trying to drop below zero, if it does we will see some decent cover,
Ps it's starting to look pretty good out there, more snow falling on the cams
Yeah I'm heading down on Saturday gonna be a pain if it snows like it's meant to,
Not complaining though
Pissing down here actually. Good for the soil.
That's the moisture we need but in white fluffy form
Puking at Buller!!!
Some big flakes.
Could be my wishful thinking but looks like it might be trying to turn white at the Wilson Valley chain bay (around 1440m ASL I think).
Certainly looks very "blobby" in that photo of Wilsons
Love the eyre photo - brilliant to see some snow action.
This thread needs a re-write of "Said Hanrahan".
Really chucking it down snow at FV now.
Looks like it
I observe that that is a good thing.
