A few news from this very weird day in Thredbo. Hit the slope this morning around 8.30 am. Snow down to the village but it was drizzling. The snow level around 9.30 am was quiet high (top of gunbarrel : 1800 m). Tried Anton and altough it was fresh snow falling higher, the cover was already wet and heavy. Didn't stop to rain/drizzle uptill 11.00 am when I decided to dry myself at Meritt restaurant. Started then to snow heavely and lowered to the village. (big fatty flakes). Went back to the chalet for a snooze and hit the slopes again around 2.00 pm under....light rain. It was raining up to the top. Finished my day at Friday Flat for a few runs with my daughter under some patches of blue sky but the air was quiet warm. Big clouds seems to rolled in again (5.20 pm) tough temperature needs a serious drop. Asta la vista.

Perisher Blue are claiming 25 cm since yesterday! This is just a touch non-cred.

Not from what I got told by people coming off the hill tonight... that's about what they were all saying, some more. I haven't see it for myself yet, so can't verify it.

I'll be up tomorrow for 3 days straight... I'll MMS some pics through if I get a chance.

Why on earth would 25cm be non cred- Firstly have a look at the cams. The creek in front of Mt P is just about filled in. Smiggins is white again. 2nd read the previous posts from people who were up the mountain. 3rd Thredbo are reoprting the same amount of snow. So Person S the only one with no cred is you for posting STOOPID things not only did we have 25cm of snow I think Guthega may have got even more- From dirt only 3 days to good conditions yesterday with 40+cm of snow accumulation in places

Spoke to Patrol on the weekend and although there looks like allot of snow up high it was thin in places. Having said that we only need about 30cm and it would open, so with the fall yesterday I would say they would set-up this morning and possibly open this afternoon or tomorrow. All of the pads and DP's are in place so it is almost right to go.

you have no sense for tradition
if there is more than 1cm of snow then any report of 1cm or more must be questioned
didn't Naom Chomsky say: question the snow report??

    Hey Frog,
I've notcied you have had a tendancy to predict rain first latley, only changing it to snow as the days get closer.
Is this a general customer (can we be called that?) satisfaction tactic, if they expect the worst and it gets better they are happy, if it stays as rain, well it's as you prediicted. [IMG]

Mt P is very close- My mail is tomorrow as long as we dont get to much melt lower down today. pretty high temps today so they might push it back. Weekend looks good now for some light falls at least. So my bet is they will wait till the weekend and crank the lift over saturday morning after a large advertising blitz in Sydney on Thursday and Friday [IMG]

Could have saved yourself some typing time if you read my earlier post and they want to give it a low traffic run before the weekend so you won't have to wait till Saturday.

Groomers on MT P most of the arvo. They will try and open the lift ASAP. All the lifties are already being paid to twiddle their thumbs atm, so if it can open tommorow i'm sure it will be. Lower Towers run is looking pretty good on the CAM.

    Be nice.
The claim I was quoting was from the Out of the Blue email newsletter from the PB propaganda department:
That reads as 25 cm snowfall within one 24 hour period, which I still don't regard as credible.
I watch the webcams every day, and we're all hoping, but I think it was extravagant to claim that much.

Yep, I heard the 25cm claim on the news tonight. Was a bit surprised, but if it's true, that's great. Now we just need some of that at Falls please....

If a so called season ending 'rain event' can dump almost a foot of snow anything can happen.
A week ago we had brow beating doomsdayers in these threads claiming the event of the last coupla days was going to end it all.
    It didn't.

I trust the chaos theory. What happens will come quickly and no one will see it coming.
Could be an event that predicts 5cm of snow but turns into an event that exceeds all expectation.

It's a shite season so far but things change in the blink of an eye.

The charts change on daily basis lets see what happens.

Now... there is a pretty big band of moisture heading south down over Canberra... are we glad that that is missing us?? Temps are a bit warm for it... is there any way that it might shift over a bit and hit us?? This was on the weatherzone 144km radar...

Hey Sandy can we extend these Obs to the 31st...

Temps have droped at Mt Lofty (9.2 - 8.1)as some pre frontal cloud passes through Adelaide. Showing some good cloud bands on the radar so we at least have some moisture. Should hit the mountains tomorrow night. 10 - 15 is looking good.

i think the radar is a bit sad at the min, the cloud seems to have disbanded a bit and so with it the moisture i would imagine. oh well all the troughs seemed to be positioned in the right areas so lets keep our fingers crossed for some falls of around 10 - 15 cm's.

    Two observations
    1) I can't believe how quickly that ECL moved off the coast into the Tasman
2)I can't believe how far South that first front slipped...it looked to be pushing cloud up from the Bight into the NT yesterday morning, and now its well South of Tassie.

    Until tomororw afternoon/evening YES

Next front is due tomororow night, and I dare not make a prediciton about this one, but in MY OPINION ONLY BASED ON GFS/GASP MODELS ONLY AND NOTHING ELSE I wouldn't expect more than 10cms at Buller, even less further North.

Next front due mid August, but a big high has the potential again to push it South!
