slow down slow down its moving too fast
Snowing @ Buller
Thought I was seeing things on the Village cam.
showtime at buller.
Even thought the rainband will move thru quick the colder frontal stuff will weave its orographic magic.
Most of yesterdays falls in Falls came from something that raised nary an echo on the radar.
i has accumulation on my balcony.
Blowin a gale there Verm?
long liveth accumulation
yeah. The front balcony faces N/NW so its getting pelted pretty hard.
and i was going to go out for a beer tonight...
Don't disturb it please. I want to see if my prediction of 10cm comes off. Let us know how close I get.
Hope you've got a few in the fridge.
dont worry, i aint going outside tonight.
Looking at the radar I reckon Baw Baw is going to get nailed.
What about Lake Mountain?
according to reports been raining around LM for a while now, hopefully the freeze level is low enough for those guys
not as heavy snow now.
Should be another band thru in about 20 mins.
Sho is movin
Big flakes and lots of them falling on the Buller village cam right now. Hope there is more juice in this one than expected. A good follow up later in the week will be good.
bloody windy outside. snow is not powder dry, which is good otherwise it would just blow down the hill.
How much on the balcony?
up to 5cms in the most windblown areas, it is really not a good indication of snowfall. later i might go out the other side and check that out, its more sheltered.
I've just come back from 4 days at Falls Creek, and I'd say there was about 6cm on a rail where the snow was falling straight down at 8am, and a further 2-3cm on the bonnet of the car by 3pm, after we cleared it this morning. I'd estimate that probably 8-10cm fell to 3pm.
Of course that doesn't include melt next to a warm building, and melt on a driven car.
Thanks Sandy Im up there in a week and a bit. Still gonna take a lot more to get the Summit side up though.
I notice that as the colder air crosses the coast around Mt Gambier it is producing echos on the radar which would indicate some moisture density. In addition, the track of the air is more NE'sterly towards the Alps.
I'd expect to see some temp drops around 4 am in the morning with some drier snow.
Its really windy here at falls at the moment. I cant tell if its snowin or blowin.
Well get out of your nice warm space, stick you tongue out and find out. Then let us know.
Actually, from looking at the webcam..the Falls car park looks like its got a swirling blizzard going.
The car tracks have disappeared and there is what looks like white dust lying around.
I assume the snow is drifting a bit.
I'd say it would take another 40cm to get almost all of the open area under the Ruined Castle chair going. You can ski there at the moment, but it's very dodgey with loads of bushes. I reckon you'd need 80cm to get the Summit area going.
Cant see that happening in a hurry but you never know.
Snowing at Cp.Very windy also finally feels like a tradtional winter storm(builing shaking).Hope it sets in for the night.
it is really really windy here now.
lookout hill down to 2.4C, cold enough for snow at bufalo/LM etc...
getting up towards 10cms of windblown snow where it get trapped. less elsewhere but it looks like its sticking ok, despite the wind.
im off to have a beer and then some sleep
Dinner Plain: very windy, about -1C, lots of drifts building up & hopefully the front will bring lots more
Good cloud cover heading towards the mountains on the vic radar, should get a bit more as it looks like the main mass has not hit yet, looking at the falls car park looks like they have had the first bit through.
Nice moist and cold eve here in Radelaide, hopefully the alps have got more white lovin to come.
Who's telling "porky pies"
Thredbo says Fresh (24hrs)@6am: 20 cm
Perisher...New Snow 24hrs 2cm
the thredbo bit on this site says 10cm...
Falls says 20cm (Hotham 11cm)...
where are you talking about?
thredbo AWS can have weird readings.... sometimes none when there is and sometimes more.... the wind can affect it... usually you get 2 readings - a village and a AWS one... if they are very different....
Steady falls since midnight at DP, about 8cm+ so far and still going, with a strong SSW and -2C outside
That has to be a typo for Thredbo! 20cm and Perisher only got 2cm.
Falls creek 20cm of freshies. Ave natural
up to 40cm.
More to come.
Any boss who doesn' give his skiers a day off is a bloody mug.
Lake Mountain had 8cm by 5.30am
Please Sandy, just a little woohoo, well a big one?
I do believe the "fat lady" has been boo-ed off stage before she even cleared her throat......
She is still on stand by though ......
An encore from the snow gods please !!!
Some nice bands of precip headed up from the SW now. I reckon Lake Mountain, Buller and Baw Baw will do pretty well today. Could be another 15-20cm in it.
2.1 deg here in batlow snow level is 1100mtrs snowing from piolot hill right throughout
2cm of dust on crust last nite. but good wind blown pockets forming about the joint.
now! its snowing, decent flakes, blown a gale.
That would be right. Snowed heavily in a 1km x 1km radius last night, about 20cm. Nothing at all across the ridge.
Looks as though we will get even more today. Good bands of rain heading through Melbourne in a North-east direction. NSW BOM are predicting it to get heavier during the day and I would think 30cm is not out of the question. Cams are looking good. There may be only 2cm in PB village but it look like a whole lot more has fallen at the bottom of Mt P.
My +1 ( Joanne Davis ) grew up in Batlow & is trying to work out if she knows you.
She suspects that you may have gone to school with her brother Anthony.
Did you grow up in Batlow?
Ooh about time. If it keeps up I may just take tomorrow morning off..
it may work out for you yet teckel, fingers crossed.
