That fall of 20cm for Falls Creek to 6am sounds about right.
As I said last night, my conservative estimate was about 9-10cm up to 3pm.

do many people think it will snow during the course of today?
I'm just a bit skeptical that it will. Im Nth East of melbourne and there has been nothing here at all (as in rain)!!!

If you check out the current radar loop it appears a lot of precipiation is passing directly over and to the South of Melbourne while heading Northeast. This means it still manages to hit the ranges without doing much to the areas North of Melbourne.

the amount reported by the resort in their mornings report is accurate. Of course there are bigger drifts around, hard to tell though when you had 0cms to go on before this snowfall, a lot is just pushing grass/shrubs/etc down. the cams are a good reflection on how much feel, seeing there was nothing there before you can gauge the fall better.

skiing was good this morning, nice and fresh but nothing powdery dry, it was hard work in some areas. Temp was a lot colder when i went out to get the paper this morning, and the snow that has fallen since then (about 8am) has been much drier and more acceptable. Wind has died down, snow is settled much better and definately sticking for a nice base.

Radar shows a lot of activity coming this way, i wouldnt mind another 10cms so i can do some sort of off-piste around the summit when it clears up.

Current conditions - snowing, not heavy, not light, wind has died down a lot since last night but still there, fog is managable. all in all a good morning's skiing with some nice fresh snow.

hope that makes u feel better, i was going to go back to uni today, but nah, **** it now that there's snow!

Where are you Vermillion ? Because one thing I can affirmed without any doubts is that the daily report produced by Thredbo Media centre is Bull****. That was confirmed by locals to me last week and it is not diffcult to verify it with the webcams. On the other hand this resort has understood very well the importance of snowmaking in Australia and are able to produce with their state of the art system a very good base on their major runs. It is vital on a poor season like the actual one. But let's our finger crossed for some natural powder skiing for august and september.

if you added up all the bogus thredbo snow fall reports in cms this season it would be nearly 160cms+ and tim bailey would be a freakn giant! go figure.... the ruler is often held horizontally in thredders

People returning from LM are reporting 15 cm on the road at the toll box (which is still 10 km short of Gerratys) :woohoo: Not sure of the accuracy of that report, but sounds great [IMG]

Donna Buang is reporting 3cm i wonder what kind of precip they're getting up there at the moment? got quite a few moderate rain showers in lilydale (north east Melbourne) through the day.

gilby06 the reason why you are seeing no rain hitting the alps is because the Melbourne radar does not cover that area. Therefore you will notice the closer the rain gets to the outer circles the less there will be of it. Try the yarrawong cam. Mt Buller is imbetween both of them therefore not much rain showing up there on the radars.

more important than that is that there are these hills in the way we call the dividing range. thats why the rain 'disappears'. go read up on it, WZ and the BOM have glossary.

According to the nine news in VIC, at 6.25pm today, 40cms.
Yesterday I measured (stuck my finger/hand in) 8cm in my tray at 4.30pm and was still going strong since then.

The Melb radar is showing nice "speckled" showers from Melb up into the hills at the moment. I reckon this has a bit to go yet. Huge.
