In between systems.
weather pleasant in Melb today..mild/still and cool...Bears are enjoying this lull with big high influencing the pattern....
Week of wind
Stay on topic.
Beautiful morning here at Blue Cow
Well it's definitely not bluebird here at Buller, but at least it's not blowing a gale, and the pie and hot coffee is great!
It's pretty cold and damp. Did I mention I'm a master of understatement too
Having fun despite conditions, and snow is generously forgiving. As the first day of the season for me I observe my legs are getting very wobbly
great day here at perisher with snow conditions mostly excellent all over
visibility in most areas is good except at guthega and top of mount p
stll blowing a bit but nothing like earlier in rhe week and all chairs are running
a few thin parches in exposed wind prone areas and a few holes here and there
skied eyre and international early today and it was great
some nice snow on runs thru the trees eg at snakes trails, behind the v8 going down to pv double and pleasant view down to guthega
the brighter light really is finishing off an
Goooood evening from Tumbarumba area where I observe passing showers since 4.30pm delivering 1.4 mm. Almost zero wind and temperature at 1.7c at my machinery shed (790 masl).
Clear morning in Canberra and -3. Snow is visible on the Tidbinbilla Range a fair way down the slopes. The summits of Camel's Hump and Tidbinbilla Peak are around 1500-1600m, so the visible snow level appears to be down to around 1300m elevation.
Windy hairdryer up at PB. Clear snow loss since last night
Drizzle rain reported on hill at Falls. Would be nice to get clear breaks between systems....no so much this season
At the risk of being warned by CC for going off topic.....people forget that 'good' seasons in Australia have awful awful weather in winter. It's just a prelude to set up spring skiing.
It'sa wet heavy mist that eventually saturates everything you wear. Crappy vis as a result.
When I did a season at Falls in '98, 'old timers' would talk about snowy, foggy, rainy seasons where they were lucky to see the sun a handful of days in 3 months.
IMO it aint Oz if we don't get rain, sleet and wind along with the good white stuff.
Thredbo very windy at top. Kosi on go slow. Hard packed off piste but the windblown is sublime. No mist or mizzle - yet.
meh. snow is snow. gimme more snow and shitty weather if it means more snow.
It's the only way towards more snow. @snowblowa is totally right - resort workers start going loopy in good seasons as they don't see the sun.
I reckon you've gotta have a level of head case to work in a ski resort anyway. bit like working on a cruise ship or island resort. cabin fever would kill me rapidly.
Depends which one.
An Aussie resort yes most definietly.
But a major OS like Whistler or one with a big town just down the road would be alright.
OK I'll definitely get belted by CC for going OT again - but the answer is yes.
I don't miss living in the snow one bit. I would like to spend a bit more time skiing than I currently do, and that will likely happen in the coming years, but fark living up there again for this and a number of other reasons.
yes this is probably true. but in the case of Whistler.... you'd be surrounded by equally nuffy Australians and that would drive me proper nuts anyway.
nice in theory, less so in practice.
Sorry for the complete disregard of topic....
Depends on the Job your doing also.
Washing dishes/any hospo for that matter or being a liftie would get tiring real quick.
ok, ok, enough
Stay on topic.
Yes I know it's a boring period.
Temps in the resorts hovering around zero at the moment. Couple of spitting showers around Melbourne but that's about it. Better than hammering r**n!
It's against my religion to ski in rain. Pub day
I observe that NSW missing most of the mizzle.
A few light showers passing through Melbourne.
Heavier band of rain pushing through now.
Any chance it drops anything once it hits the mountains?
If it makes it
They're not light hitting us here in Brighton atm!
Radar says it won't last long though.
Just nuisance rain - will make things damp but won't result in much accumulation.
Yeh, just sweeping through the CBD now.
Will make roads damp and slippery. Just annoying rain.
Hoping it clears for the ride home.
Got the car a much-needed wash today.
Though it was filthy so this will be an improvement.
Heavy showers in St Kilda
This made me lol.
From the falls Creek FB page.
misty and tiny bit drizzly in the tallarook ranges. ground is very wet for first time in a few years i reckon
Bluebird day at Perisher not much wind as good as it gets
Same for Thredbo. Busy morning.
Nice fast snow this am
Apparently Buller isn't at full capacity yet- according to their Facebook Page
Looking to the west at the Basin (Thredbo)
The wind picked up in the afternoon, but otherwise it was lovely.
Breeze just picking up a bit here at Perisher
Prefrontal just starting to appear on the Adelaide Radars. First wave expected tomorrow morning for Vic, later for NSW IMO
Clouds coming in
Melbourne looking gray now- Radar is showing light rain heading towards Geelong.
Looks like it will rain on my way to Buller
All good if it rains on the way to Buller, as long as it's snow on the mountain.
