Well it's definitely not bluebird here at Buller, but at least it's not blowing a gale, and the pie and hot coffee is great!

It's pretty cold and damp. Did I mention I'm a master of understatement too :D

Having fun despite conditions, and snow is generously forgiving. As the first day of the season for me I observe my legs are getting very wobbly

Clear morning in Canberra and -3. Snow is visible on the Tidbinbilla Range a fair way down the slopes. The summits of Camel's Hump and Tidbinbilla Peak are around 1500-1600m, so the visible snow level appears to be down to around 1300m elevation.

At the risk of being warned by CC for going off topic.....people forget that 'good' seasons in Australia have awful awful weather in winter. It's just a prelude to set up spring skiing.

It'sa wet heavy mist that eventually saturates everything you wear. Crappy vis as a result.

When I did a season at Falls in '98, 'old timers' would talk about snowy, foggy, rainy seasons where they were lucky to see the sun a handful of days in 3 months.
IMO it aint Oz if we don't get rain, sleet and wind along with the good white stuff.

Thredbo very windy at top. Kosi on go slow. Hard packed off piste but the windblown is sublime. No mist or mizzle - yet.

It's the only way towards more snow. @snowblowa is totally right - resort workers start going loopy in good seasons as they don't see the sun.

I reckon you've gotta have a level of head case to work in a ski resort anyway. bit like working on a cruise ship or island resort. cabin fever would kill me rapidly.

    Depends which one.
An Aussie resort yes most definietly.

But a major OS like Whistler or one with a big town just down the road would be alright.

OK I'll definitely get belted by CC for going OT again - but the answer is yes.

I don't miss living in the snow one bit. I would like to spend a bit more time skiing than I currently do, and that will likely happen in the coming years, but fark living up there again for this and a number of other reasons.

yes this is probably true. but in the case of Whistler.... you'd be surrounded by equally nuffy Australians and that would drive me proper nuts anyway.

Temps in the resorts hovering around zero at the moment. Couple of spitting showers around Melbourne but that's about it. Better than hammering r**n!

They're not light hitting us here in Brighton atm!
Radar says it won't last long though.
Just nuisance rain - will make things damp but won't result in much accumulation.
