some nice lenticular and wave cloud forms on the cams, and looks like plenty of wind top of Thredbo.

Absolutely dogs##t at Perisher. Raining and steadfastly refusing to drop temps enough to snow. Dropped little fella at ski school at 8:15 and for a few brief minutes looked like it might be ok before weather closed back in.

Currently sitting in car seriously considering going and pulling him out and heading home.

Half woke up briefly last night to what sounded like a tropical storm downpour (dinner plain)

Surprised to see there is still heaps of snow about

Hopefully this is it for rain events this season, let's get back on track. It's been distinctly not wintry the past couple of days and gone a fair bit backwards since the great snow this time last week

Looking at various Bom Obs stations - ( East of the Divide) there has been considerable warm moist advection from the East- North. Together with warmer temps this has also created areas of larger Confluence resulting in more Convection than was in the prognosis.

The peculiarity of the Buller & BB falls was that they picked up the tail-end of the sliding front.
Here's the 850mb temps progged by AXS-C last night (1am) - about the time the supportive temps hit Buller/BB. Notice how BB dived into the negs 2.5 hours prior to Buller? Slider....

IMO, shear luck both resorts picked up anything.

@beefa skiing and I were snow camping at Mt. No. 3 Refuge hut ( 1490 M. greater Mt. Stirling area) on Friday and last night ( 30th and 31 /7/21 ).It became windy last night , then started raining hard in the middle of the night. I got up to wee only to find that it was hammering down with snow, just puking!. This morning it looked like about 8 cms of fresh on my tent,
snow above 1400 M. for the Buller/ Howitt/ Stirling area. We BC XC skiied and skinned out of the area back towards Mt. No. 3 and the car on fresh powdery soft snow in bright sunshine.
BOM and Ms. Bunn got it wrong and
we scored a total bonus snow top up on our BC XC Ski Sunday.
:)
Photos will be supplied tomorrow......

Day 2 . 31.7.21.Some R*** lower down below 1350 M. on our 15 km ski tour without heavy packs , down to King Saddle at Mt. Stirling and back .The fog and R*** cleared up back at camp at the hut.
Some visitors on A/ T ski gear and skins rocked up but with no killer steeps they got bored and went to the Mansfield pub.

Wow great snow up there. Did you come through from TBJ or Carter’s Rd?
Carter's road. It was an amazing trip. I will do a full trip report today and tomorrow. So many photos and so many rewarding experiences. Black Diamond kicker skins allowed me to get up and back safely with a heavy multi night snow camping pack.
