Photo taken Black Sallees balcony Thredbo. 1880m Snowing again. Im soaked through. Great morning, still beats working!!
It's still snowing at the top of Hotham. Wet snow though. Rain/snow mix at the bottom of the village chair. I would describe it as 'Slurpee-consistency'. Most chairs are on windhold.
Looks like the direction it is now coming from we are getting more moisture in Jindabyne than up at Perisher.
Better than all rain, glad to hear. Hoping the low shoves off soon! Minor flood warnings for some Gippsland rivers.
I have observed good base building accumulation across Mt P & Centre Valley since yesterday. This mornings wet snow, sleet & drizzle was light until 11.15 but seems to be getting heavier ATM. Some fat wet flakes in amongst the rain falling at Sundeck overlooking front valley and wind gusts seem to be increasing. V8 still running but only Ts running on Mt P & Centre Valley. Not the best conditions but some fun still to be had for the intrepid optimists.
baw baw cams showing big washout. what kinda rain can we expect at hotham falls? 20mm? 40mm? more....?
I think mt hotham was predicted to get approx 40mm, omeo approx 70 mm. Looking at weather obs for hotham today, their gauge must be broken or frozen cos its still at 0.0mm.
I wouldn't be trusting the AWS at temps near or below zero, they tend to freeze up (even with heaters installed). That being said, I don't think either Falls or Hotham are getting as much rain as was forecast due to the rain shadowing effect.
Wind seems to have picked up since this morning here at Hotham/Davenport. Went out for 2 runs around 9am then gave up due to the wet. This morning's huge flakes have given way to plain old r**n and the fresh cover is now looking a bit ordinary. Most people seem to have decided to stay in for the rest of the day.
it's been working for a week or two. The "preview" says off line, but it's working, with a live stream.
I pulled the pin at about 1pm here at Hotham. Definitely just rain down the bottom and the freeze level was rising fast. Good news is that the precipitation got a lot lighter, and actually might have stopped now (can't really tell looking out the window)
It's looking pretty grim out the window here at Falls village with steady rain from about 3am...main lifts didn't turn at all today.
Phone report from hotham is WET. My partner drove from hotham to Omeo for fuel and groceries and reported difficult driving conditions with much slush and water on the road.report that they may even close the road tomorrow if rain persists.
yes a bizarre system this one, 9 degrees here in Canberra and rain around would usually be definitely below freezing in the mountains and snow yet with this one the warmer air seems to be in the mountains but not here. It feels and looks like snow weather here at any rate but thats not what they are getting this time....
Tony Middleton @wildcoastimages 2h2 hours ago It's a wet cold day in #Gippsland with 30hr totals upto 130mm in places. VICSES News @vicsesnews 2h2 hours ago Major Flood Warning for the Buchan River: http://goo.gl/CkaR7 #vicfloods
Been out 3 times today...Short sessions. Perisher where honest enough with the 20cm. Was like glue early and really sketchy to try ski in bad light. Zalis was ok if you could skate hard enough down hill to get to the shoulder and drop in . Quick hour or so this arv. Just cause we're up here. All the outer layers are wet. Inoc gear is good ! Btw Still snow/snotting & melting off the roof.
Actually, I reckon it's been rather mild all day here in Melbourne. Although windy- just easing off this afternoon.
I saw cars lined up outside Hotham Central about 1pm. I think they were going to start taking people down in convoys. There was certainly a lot of sludgy-looking brown snow on the ground. Hope your partner gets back up the hill okay if she's not back already.
Sounds like hotham has fared pretty well , still was snowing very wet snow after lunchtime and with temps hovering around 0 . They should escape with a net gain from this .. fingers crossed Also once all this wet snot freezes we will be looking at a very hard packed frozen base
SE flow and band now heading through in the last hour. AWS have temps on the rise and a good amount of precip registering. Thredbo tends to do 'well' out of falls from the SE, so it looks like it will pick up the most here.
Surely its Buller that gets today's smily stamp today with about 1mm in the guage. All other mountains observed 10+
Tookayerta Creek (usually a trickle) in the Adelaide HIlls The van was stranded when the driver decided to take the gamble and cross the water. Two blokes inside had to be rescued ....

Interesting to look at the coastal temps in Vic. Gabo Island around 15c and west of that Yarram, Cape Otway and Portland around 12c. Our 3 deg for NSW seems to be a couple of hundred kilometres west so will be good to see this low push further east SOON. A freeze and another 5cm would be a good result.
