They are claiming 25-30cm in the village and photos support that
Virgin snow about to be shredded...
Monday can't come quick enough.
Your mate needs to reassess his priorities though... Less photo's more shredding legit pow.
Stay on topic.
Weather obs only.
Band moving past Ballarat and intensifying. Some nice imbedded cells in there. Just needs an east turn for Buller to be in the game. Might be a miss at this stage.
Radar suggests there's one more little burst in it, a sneaky southerly 5-10cm.
Back down the hill from smiggins. Epic tree runs with 20cm of light dry snow. Tried to head over to interceptor and north p but wind and visibility an issue.
Looked to be firing up into a blizzard when I left at 10
I observe that I have never seen this much sno in rock gdn
Marketing hype..... certainly a good fall of snow but no where near as dry as early August 2005 (which I would call powder as it passed the swinging stock test).
Charlotte report. Snowed heaps over night, so plenty of freshies. Out of the wind it was light and skied boot deep. Else where it was wind packed. Started off sunny buy clouds rolled again late morning and has started to snow again. Tree skiing will be the order for this afternoon.
Lee slopes epic deep this morning at falls - bit firm on exposed slopes. Fog lifted around 9 for an hour or so of almost bluebird. Snow back on now. Doesn't get any better!
Powder great on Mt BC but not super dry. Blizzarding up high & ski tube chockers at 11.30.
I wish but Sunday should be good, if not special
I observe i cleared this balcony 48 hrs ago!
Started snowing about 90 minutes ago at Hotham. Snowing on and off.
Been an epic morning at buller. Unfortunately the dreaded wet buller fog has moved in so it's time to go. Defiantly enough face shots to get me through till Saturday though.
30cm was the report this morning and its probably about right. Maybe a little optimistic but close
Hotham facebook post:
CC would like this cos your right on topic!!
wind peaked at 89kph at Thredbo top station according to BOM. At noon.
25cm in village and 50cm up top would be pretty close in Thredbo from what I saw today. Some deep areas with extra windblown maybe even more. I was thigh-deep digging my son out of a stack this morning under Snowgums lift.
Very windy / cold / poor visibility around middle of the day but runs off the Bluff into Cannonball, True Blue were great.
Sides of the main runs kept getting covered by windblown so nice most of the day.
Wind pack 11% powder....best snow in a couple of years...nothing like 2008..or..05...04..03...
All in all not much snow at Hotham today.
Strange has been drizzly and icey cold here ion dong today. So cold, Funny up until snowmageddon 2 weeks ago was a warm winter. Since has been so so cold, and yet we have only had 1 frost. Normally we would be up around 8-12 solid frosts by now.
I observe PB about 6 outa 10 today. Wind affected variable, pretty atypical Australian with lots of wind and fairly average visibility. Started nice. Did not improve. Lots of snow but far from epic.
I observed Buller was much better than average today. For a first day on the hill this season it was pure joy.
Beautiful morning on the North Side, warmed up down low, I got first tracks on Grimus / Mcloughlin’s Shoulder after patrol had gone through – was really fukn good(opened @10.30 and was worth the wait).
Warmed up in late morning - pre-frontal? Then very heavy cold rain on the drive home, hopefully snowing again for those of you on the hill.
I also observed that the Aldi INOC outerwear jacket I was wearing did not perform anywhere near as well as the goretex pants. Outer laminate got soaked quite quickly thus reducing breathability. Still good though as Homer Simpson would say.
It’s a serious pity that a lift company that specializes in moving snow and people around mountains can't open half the mountain until 10.30 - not used to fresh snow? (I was a lifty at Buller so I have a bit of an understanding of their systems).
Buller's Better today.
Took some snaps on the way up HH, thereafter cam remained in pocket.
God bless Summer Grooming.
Thats just a average day in nsw ..imo
Thredbo excellent today. Freshies and windblown all day. A tad heavier than ten days ago but stupid amounts. The windblown on the upper half to 2/3 of the hill absolutely outstanding. No crowds, no queues, no wuking furries.
Y'all need more Hotham wind protection
25cm at LM overnight. This morning it was snowing, but during the day turned to sleet, r**n, sleet, r**n etc at the village, but snowed on the trails.
I observed the weather at PB today to be variable, but mostly very windy with low/medium vis. Snow showers were mostly light but consistent all day.
The snow conditions were much the same, icy bulletproof in windblown areas, relatively dry roughly shin deep in the trees between North P and BC, and fresh but somewhat heavy on piste (possibly because of man made on some runs)
A great great day, but from my experience not even close to a top 10 (even for this decade)
Today at Buller there was a true 31cm of fresh powder this morning. However the snow was a little heavy towards the bottom 1/3, but it held up really well all day. The moist winds were present for most of the day, but it did not effect the snow. Only my jacket and pants got wet. All of Buller is now open, including Federation. I spent most of the day doing the steep stuff, Bloody Hell, Cut 73, Wood Run, Women's Downhill, the snow was deep.
A few clouds but a largely sunny morning here at Hotham. Wonder if it will be a largely sunny day?
I observe water on falls and Hotham cams.. Is it raining? Temps look ok?
melting ice on the lens perhaps?
Buller-esque drizzle at falls...
Arrived at Thredbo car park at 9am, 5 degrees, clouds starting to roll in.
The mountain is very hard packed this morning on the groomers. Few nice wind drifts up high.
Awaiting the next front. .....
misty and cold at hotham.
drenched wet in an hour.not pleasant today.
Looking a tad damp on all Vic cams.
Thedbo cams...looks like everyone's gone? To lunch maybe ?
Had a call and an email from Buller confirming same.
trees still have snow on them in the cedarwood cam which is a plus.
temps seem good tho?
Temps are ok, but uppers are warmer and there's no lift, so we get freezing drizzle.
that's exactly what it is...frozen drizzle.
trees,buildings,road all frozen
Forum froth out rated the snow fizz for NSW on this one.
Friday afternoon is usually quiet and the wind came up about 11. Cold up top, warm the village.
Its a lovely afternoon in Jindabyne.
Cloud building over Melbourne CBD, streaming in from the NW, clouds quite dark. Wind was picking up as I passed through Richmond. Radar all clear though
