I observe that i love that cloud, which I often observe from Dalgety pub, west window
I observe that @Kelpieboy is far too optimistic to be on the land. Mind you, I have also been observing the price of wool and lamb....;)

Ah no... The call at Spencer's was 43 to which was added Thursdays to make 56. It was reported today that around 10 -15 fell overnight and its snowed all day. Our lodge at Smiggs has over a foot on the ground and a lot of that came today. 60-80 at Spencers -- easy.. Now if by Thursday Spencers attains 80-100 then high parts of Perisher will have good coverage. I see lifts opening at Smiggin's this arvo, which will help with wind., Its nice and protected there. As a mate says Lets see how this pans out!

With such a westerly flow I think that FV at Perisher misses out on a lot of snow but Mt P (Eyre) and Guthega would do better. The wind of the main range will also help with accumulation so it will be interesting to see the net results tomorrow. A big freeze overnight will also help. Some good turns tomorrow!

I can confirm that snow fell (as in blew sideways) all day today at Guthega and Smiggins (Perisher). Very nice powdery snow

I observed that I got a face peel from the snow coming at me while riding the 8 up FV this afternoon.

I observe literally about 0.5 cm on the ground at Friday flat level (1365m) and closer to 1cm at the very top of the village (14 something m). Locals say up to 10cm fell higher up today. Top half of Thredbo actually looks ok from below and I'm told all lifts bar sponars COULD be open this week but no guarantees

    Anyways...

The crowds and the lift hold did us in today. Three runs on Perisher FV in an hour and we'd had enough. Could have headed over to centre valley or smigs but called it for our first day of the season (teenagers said no more..)

It was snowing hard the whole time we were there, mostly small icy graupel but the occasional flurry of big flakes mixed in. The wind and the vis were bad.

Conditions on the ground were great - dry and fluffy.

Oh yeah. The drive back to Canberra was pretty ordinary for me but the views were great. The rain hanging close to the edge of the range to the west of the Monaro with the sun shining from behind and clear skies above was pretty spectacular at times.

Thpppffft. I was at Perisher once. It was too crowded, had no terrain, no shelter in bad weather and had a vibe like the Pitt St mall

    I know. Stay on topic

I think you may have the wrong opinion of cockies. Sure we whinge and whine about the weather ( its always too wet or too dry or too something or other ) but let me tell you right here and now ..................to make you living off this land you have to be the ultimate in optimists or you wouldn't do it. Mind you the price for fattened lamb at the moment is worthy of..............:):):):):):):):):):):):):):):) all the way to the bank.
Anyway great too see some of the fluffy stuff around today , hopefully more on the way.

Not a bad weekend up here was it. Some nice dry freshies were to be had.

8pm it was lightly snowing here at Buller. Going to prepare to ski Summit tomorrow, before leaving. It is certainly better snow wise , when I leave compared to when I came last week.

I observe very low cover still on the Main Range.

Splitted from Guthega over up Tate East Ridge and it was as sparse as I've seen. 20-30cm or so on top of bushes and not really rideable.

Cover got a little better mid-way up but very tricky with lots of lumps/bumps from the landscape not being filled in yet. Was very tough going and we need at least another 50cm to get the zone working.

Up high around Gills Knob was scoured icy stuff.

Snowing lightly this morning at Perisher after the stars where out last night.
Wind has dropped which will make it a bit more pleasant on the hill but will not have the advantage of wind transport.

For real. This description is the measure of how the season is really going so far. Unless you're only a flat track bully groomer skier, the season hasn't started yet. But good luck to you if you are. Cheers for this @SAsurfa

Nice fresh morning at Blue Cow. lightly snowing with a strong wind at the top of the ridge chair.
Seemed to be a consistent 10cm of fresh cover down first tracks on excelerator.

Yesterday's appalling conditions delivered. Great skiing today on BC with the cover transformed from this time last week. PV claim of 39 cm new snow over the past week (since 0 was outside snow making areas) is probably about right for the best of the cover, but the combined effects of grooming, snow making & fresh dry wind blown have delivered great skiing. Good to see a narrow Side Saddle open today for low intermediates to prevent the carnage on Zalis, which along with Accelerator & Roller Coaster were sensational early without crowds. Traverse to Guthega is high and a good work out as much of it is uphill. Once there the cover is just adequate on Bloody Mary with other runs from the top of Blue Cow T officially closed. Fun to be had for those who don't mind scraping their gear on shrubs & rocks. Overall the best day of the season as more terrain opens, crowds spread out & yesterday's falls delivered great fresh. Interesting though that there isn't enough snow for ticket scanners to work on Blue Calf, Blue Cow, Leichart, Wentworth & Lawson Ts. Towers had great snow early & plenty of fresh off the sides. I think another 10-20 is needed for all link runs to open. Groomers were working on Brumby today - unsure when it will open.

Been snowing consistently at Guthega. Some great turn in the fresh and plenty around if you want to go outside the trails. Hopefully this snow continues.

Took a look early this morning down towards the southern end of the range and generally towards Victoria to see what the weather was doing before heading up the hill. Just caught the full moon setting. The bulk of the cloud had cleared before moving back in around midday.

On and off flurries all day at Thredbo but no real accumulation. Still the mountain skied great today after yesterday's falls. Soft snow all the way down with only a few underlying ice patches which admittedly are sure to become more widespread as the week wears on. Not much wind either which made for a great first day of season 2017 for me

Facebook has its place but the cams seem to show r*** at bb which has washed away the dusting which fell overnight. Perhaps the temp will drop tonight and produce a result.

I observed quite dry fluffy snow at Hotham yesterday. Big fat snow flakes falling during the drive. Chains needed for 20km of the Harrietville approach.

Today it tried to flurry in the afternoon at about 3.30. Most of the open terrain held up really well. Even Slalom Gully - though full of bumps etc was still very skiable.

Some rain on an off all evening at Harrietville and I notice a large blob of rain on the radar over Melbourne which appears to be heading in a favourable direction.
