Nothing really up at Hotham from dark apart from a couple of spurts (of snow), including one at the moment. Snowguns firing..

How is it in the last two snow reports that Falls got way more than Hotham when they are so close?

Yeah @CarveMan. August 25th storm was the benchmark imo . The biggest fall perisher reported then was an accurate 30 cm overnight

Just took the dog for a walk near Oakleigh and had to take my jacket off after 10 minutes, so was walking for 30 minutes in short sleeves. That said their is plenty of cloud building to the West.

Talked to a guy who had been up to St Gwinear and came back via South Face Rd in the afternoon and he said that it was pretty good, little bit muddy in some sections. Snow on the side of the road for about half the length, Baw Baw side.

I observe that Mount Buffalo has the best snow cover that I've seen for many, many years. Snow on the ground down to around 1000m and fitting chains to 2wds today (not really needed though as the graders have been out in force).

Was going to head over to Falls tomorrow for some cross-country skiing but I think I'll go back up to Buffalo again instead and enjoy the rare cover while exploring some of the more remote parts.

I've looked it up on google maps and it's at about 700m asl according to them, I really wasn't expecting it to snow there. Figured that the really heavy shower brought down just cold enough air.

Oh yeah obs... A couple of heavy showers have gone through Trafalgar, Gippsland in the last 2 hours on their way to the Baw Baw Plateau even had some light hail in one of them.

The weekend snow was not only in the major resort areas, we had to repair a chain today ( it was incorrectly fitted) that was used on Subaru to drive up to Mt Donna Buang

Proof on this? I'd like to see 1 resort in AUS that under-reports snowfall. I think it's more likely the positioning of their snowdepth measurements, wind-direction or both that contributed to the difference in snow fall that was reported. Falls also loves to have the most snowdepth out of the VIC resorts, perhaps compensating for lack of vert?

I observe a very crisp morning in Sydney, below 3 degrees in the west.

On snow fall reports, I think anywhere is difficult to measure with the wind as it was. I find that you just need to take the measurements as they are without comparing resorts, fact is, enough snow fell in every resort to be effing good skiing!

I can confirm there is in excess of 1.5m of snow at Hotham anywhere leeward.
Got to appreciate Hothams integrity regarding snow measurements.
Thredbo and Perisher should report snow in resort. Period.

I think that's the case Verm - it depends on where the measurement is taken and I think that hotham use an 'average' reading somewhere in between top elev. and bottom elev to even it out
