And to think that Snowy Hyrdo do a once a year 'environmental flush' which would only see the river rise less than a 1/2 of its current height is a joke. The lower Snowy from Buchan to Orbost definitely needs it.
I observe many Vic paddlers travelling out to East Gippsland to paddle the Cann/Genoa/Buchan/Snowy Rivers.

Light - moderate showers here in Thomastown.
Metro Melbourne only averaged around 12mm from the big ECL storm.
Good to see the resorts now getting snow.

Almost 10cm of accumulation at Perisher so far. Big fat flakes falling and radar showing good for a few hours yet.

Looks like it's warming up as the moisture heads north.
Falls & buller above 0 now, and looks like rain at the lower levels.

Interestingly Thredbo seems to be sunny in the village , Flakes are still falling but no snow collecting below about 1600metres.

Temps are marginal. IMO it's those cold uppers that I talked about in the prediction thread that are allowing Perisher to accumulate. Was always going to be an elevation system.

Below is Perisher weather station. Temps hovering above and below zero. And 12mm concurs with your 10cm observation.

Perisher accumulation keeps climbing. 15cm isn't too far away. IMO. But so are the temps. Wandering coldpool is wandering off. imo. I hope I'm wrong.

Yes clearly ! but I think we may even get a bit more, 20cm looks likely by the end of the day (based on accumulation rate so far) temps are holding nicely. The Low has a nice little spin happening, Perisher doing well but not doing to much for the Vic resorts.

I observe that a certain reptilian may need to backtrack a little

"Looks like Thredbo saved a bunch of money, all resorts snow will wash away this weekend. Looks like no skiing/boarding for opening weekend and beyond unless it dumps late next week (which is unlikely)"

I observe it's blardy cold, wet and windy in Perth this morning (gusting to 96km/h at Rottnest early this morning). If this one makes it to the mountains it should do some good. Opening weekend could be one for the woolly jumper.

Buller showing colder then Perisher since 4.00 pm yesterday and over 20mm. Why is there flat out being 2cm of snow ?

Bears observe some strange alien has teleported on to the Cedarwood Table evidenced by Snow Cam of Cedarwood Balcony
and we also see incidentally that snow falls are minimal too!!!!:D well unless the alien is eating some of the snow before it accumulates>>>

Westerlies are terrible at Buller. Can rain down to -2C.

No, that's the reason it's raining at buller.

Perisher probably gets more of an orographic lift in the air mass than buller does so it gets fed better in certain conditions.

Apira snow cam showing 2.4 c. Maybe that's the reason.

APRIA cam is on the roof and seems to get warmer during the day, so I wouldnt trust its temperature calcs.

There's a good explanation by Sandy on why Buller hates westerlies and why they dont produce snow 99.9% of the time. But I cant find it. But I can personally vouch for skiing in -2C at Buller during a westerly and getting covered in rain that froze on me. In short, there rise in elevation from the west is too sharp and the moisture cant cool fast enough to transition from rain to snow, resulting in freezing rain.

The reason is that when the wind blows from the west, the air rises too quickly to cool at Buller. So rain at the bottom will still be rain at the top on a westerly. There's orographic lift, but it occurs too quickly.

Looks like snow on the Bluff Spur cam at Stirling now. But surely that can't be, if it's raining at Buller?

AWS for Manjimup, WA have temps currently @ 6C as of 10pm with precip. accumulating. Models have 850hPa charts at -2C tonight. I think it's fair to say summit of Bluff Knoll (1099m ASL) would be seeing a few flurries over the next few hours.

An engineering journal article from 2012 estimates 50 metres of recession along Narabeen for a projected 0.9 metres of sea level rise.
