Viewing the waters from the big rocks at Esperance would be stunning....and cold!
Oh yes - certainly laughing with the, not at them!
Raining in Bendigo now. Looks like it'll settle in for the night....
I think you are mistaking West Aussie White Pointers for clouds Too soon ???
a severe weather warning issued by BOM for NE and Sth,West & East Gippsland damaging winds expected tonight..... issued about 3.30pm
for elevated areas above 1,200m winds 60kmh gusting to the ton....
Bit of moisture on the radar but temps only look good for snot above 1900m for now.
8c in jindy and wind building.
There's movement in the Perisher gauge.
Nooooooo. Look at the temps. Plus 2.1 degs.
Rain on the roof here.
3mm and 3deg at Buller. Woo.
All Vic hill temps are tropical, same as the moisture feed lol! Let's see when that cold air arrives in the morning if any moisture lingers thru the day. The trailing edge of the low pressure complex where the feed goes more southerly suggests a little sting in the tail IMO.
Blowing a gale here in Jindy.........roof is trembling......Will this bring some snow?
Absolutely pissing down in thredbo, top to bottom, I ain't going out there again!
I can't see any snow in this, it's tropical out there.
2.4 at thredbo top station, rain getting heavier.
35mm and counting, -2 and your quad ride might have been interesting!
Only needed to be 5 degrees colder, bucked down all night, was still intensifying when I left at 5.
10c and pissing down, think not
EC pretty much got this one right so far
Last 24hrs @ Perisher
Balmy 17 deg here in Sydney this morning June 9th WTF
temps heading the right way in NSW down nearly 2c in the last hour via Perisher weather stations
It's just too warm
Looks cold on the weekend in Jindy Lowee 9deg maxs
I actually feel better about that than 3mm and 0.5C, because that would be SO CLOSE to snow, but still not. At least at 3C I dont even have to worry about it.
At least with saturated earth, when the big overnight freezes come, the soil will freeze up nicely to provide a good ice block foundation for the base to grow on IMO
Doesn't work that way sadly.
Raining in Canberra at the moment, and its 11c, feels about 8c so there is some wind chill. Mount Ginini is 2.5c dropped from 4c an hour ago. its getting colder
Maybe I'm just be too hopeful but it looks like snowflakes on centre valley and mt p cam and zalis cam
that would be right looking at the temps above 1900m
IMO wet ground freezes better than dry ground, so with some big solid over night freezes, soggy soil freezes well and provides a colder surface for a base to build on than drier ground. Obviously for open grass covered parts of the hill. All IMO.
Some decent falls across NE Vic this past week. Weather has certainly shifted significantly down here after that good system came through last month.
I know we're wanting snow atm, and not rain, but it's not even QBW yet, but the follow up falls of rain into our catchments here are encouraging. Nice saturated catchments for further systems, that are hopefully a few degrees cooler.
The past week:
Yesterday's falls were reasonable, between 25-50mm across higher parts.
-20 Uppers. That is better than previous.
at least with heaps of rain the muddy ground will freeze solid next week after a frost and any snow that falls will stick and I think this system has a fairly good southerly fetch...from...ANTARCTICA.
temps falling quickly at hotham ,down to 0.2 .. Should start turning white soon
snowing at Perisher now
very strange weather ...
Looking good at South Perisher.
Snow on the roof of the V8 and on the road
Well it looks pretty decent on the cams now compared to 8:30am before i left home for work.
Not sure if this is the right place to ask but what are we looking for (snow) in this chart?
I'm sure CC can provide more info. But I'm just looking for the 500mb temps. I'm looking for -20 deg or colder.
There is also moisture content from the separation in dew point to actual temp. But I'm no expert in working that one out.
This explains it pretty well.
Its an Altitude v Temp graph, with dew point and temp trace.
Basically tells you moisture content in the air vs the temperature at different altitudes
Firstly 500 hPa temps. The two red lines are the "current" sample temps lhs is the dew temp/ rhs is actual temp (blue is the previous samples 2300 UTC)
So you can seem 500 hPa is -20C - ideally we like to see -25C or better - discussed before
850hPa temps are temps you're likely to see at resort levels - pretty close to 0C.
Finally wind speed and direction on the far right hand side - at each level.
its sunny and mild with no wind in Sunbury....and doesnot seem that much rain fell o/n..
Pretty much the same in Hallam. had 3mm
Yesterday's rain appears to have hit the more elevated parts surrounding Melbourne (Central Highlands, Kinglake, Yarra Ranges), and also north of the Divide.
Thanks CC, Astro66 and Chowder11
I love this forum!
Actually very normal
Warm then cold
Right on queue. GFS has had 850hPa snow from 10am today modeled for about 4 days now.
FIFY (apologies for being a pedant)!
