Metal animals?
Is jindebyne the best place to stay for thredbo? (Other than thredbo itself which would be prohibitively expensive)
There is a pair of metal birds (emus I think?) which my kids like to sit on outside the pizza shop and a metal wombat in the village square. Probably a few others as well...
Jindabyne is an ok place to stay for Thredbo, but remember on a good day it's half an hour down the hill and if you're lucky enough to get a big dump of fresh snow as we did on arrival a few years ago it could be a 3 hour trip.
I'd add that often kids (and on occasion partners) don't want to ski all day and would rather chill out in the lodge, especially if it's snowing or windy as they get cold more easily than adults. If you're staying off-snow and only have one car for the family then you get to sit in a motel room reading a book. If you're on-snow then the adults can still take it in turns to go out and slide. Also if you're not in the village you miss out on the whole on-snow experience. Slogging up and down the hill every day is a hassle.
