Thinking of doing a walk to Kidman's Hut via Island Bend fire trail and potentially on to Tin Hut and back to Munyang (via a car shuttle).

How long does it typically take to get from Kidman's to Tin?

Recently walked from Guthega Pondage up to Rolling Ground then down to White's (night 1) and over to Tin (night 2) then back to Guethga PS via Aqueduct Trail.

Group all in late 20s / early 30s.

Kidmans to Tin can be done in 2-4 hours if you are a strong walker and your nav is good.

If it took you a day to get from Guthega to Whites via the RG then It will likely take you a day from Kidmans to Tin.

I'd agree with that. Knowing where the route is will make a huge difference. A lot of the thicker bits have cairns, but easy to lose.

Took us more like 3/4 day to get from Guthega to White's River. We didn't start walking till about 10.45am and got into White's around 4pm (decided against pushing on to DCB).

    But point taken.

Burrungubugge Hut to Kidmans has a reputation of being a rather scrubby combat zone.

Used to be rather tame...Kidman’s hard to see on first visit though.Track to right side of river that goes through a little steeper neck...still on right side going uo stream. But it’s been a long while. But BB went in one of the earlier fires .....used to be so nice the Constance’s replacement.Kidman’s only a shed thingee!

Constances was a great hut with a huge window vista. Went up towards it last winter for a walk cause it was wet and raining up to high altitudes. We got very wet walking through scrub when we left the fire trail just pass the bridge. Did not bother going as far as the hut site. Pity it’s been let go would provide an ok alternative access to that part of the park.

This is the route from Burrungubugge Hut site to Tin Hut following the waypoints mentioned in Robert Greens Jagungal book.

Does this follow the old track that heads up from Reids? I managed to follow this up to the ridge top late early 90's. Looks like it does.
Regrowth on the track up to Constance is tough. The scrub up to Kidmans don't remember as being overly troublesome though last done 10 years ago.
Walked down the pointy finger ridge to Dead Horse ck to Kidmans. Ridge and valley ok till crossing creek low down valley near to junction with Burrungubugge. Steep nasty little gully with thick scrub. The old route from Alpine up and over to Kidmans was there for a reason! Took about 3 hrs from Tin.

Yep. Follows old track from Reids. The dotted line was ok going downhill a few years ago. Dog Peak ridge is probably a better option Tin/ Mt porcupine to Kidmans than Dead horse Creek.

I'd go along with that - green season. White season Porcupine - Dead Horse Ck- Kidmans is a lovely ski. (I should add - going via the Burrungbugge)

Looks like KNP need a D4 to work the approach to Constance’s Ruin :up that track from near the wooden bridge.Bit hard to fathom the overgrown track philosophy!Have they taken a dislike to Mt Bikes as a mode of transport.Nice Eucalypts down there with smooth trunks.God only knows what’s left after the last mega fire .We used to drive to the major fork just under the powerlines and park around there! Then pretty easy walk to the “New Hut”.That hut was stunning with its big windows and little stove .But all gone now it seems!

A pic of brother and friend from 40 years ago, spring 1981 at the original Constances Hut. Travelling from Constances to Alpine hut (was in the lee of the Brassies and long gone) we used to go straight up the ridge you can see behind the hut and across the Burrungubugee river. Shortest route to Tin IMO and not too bushy.
