Yep, i agree with you teckel, we've been waiting for so long its about time there was a decent fall at LM. if theres speculation in the predictions thread it'l snow down to sea level at tassie then its got to be low enough at LM

Snow down to 1200m on Friday is certainly a possibility! With the carpark at 1330m, this is looking very nice

Sprint X. Slightly excellent.

Great course, class field, nice weather and plenty of spills to get the crowd fired up. Winners were Victor Gustafsson from Sweden and Australian dual Winter Olympian Esther Bottomley. Best action off the jump went to the Australian National Team's World Cup Coach August Teague. Fastest time through the speed trap was 35km/hour from Phil Bellingham. Super Heroes seen at the start included Donatello, Fire Star, Bat Girl, Super Woman, Iron Woman and The Hulk.

Sounds like an FIS event with names like that! hopefully there was lots of average skiers too there, I'd love to have a go at it one day, but I'd be a little nervous skiing against some from the national team. I hear its quite a casual event though and a lot of fun too.

No excuse next year TeleXC. It is not so much skiing against the National Team, as skiing with the National Team. Plenty of 'ordinary' skiers involved, including parents of junior squad skiers, Marysville's Chief of Police, Lake Mountain staff and Kevin Tory, organiser of the Victorian Ski Chase, a handicap series based on nine citizen ski events throughout the season. Nice prizes and a handicap system designed to give everyone a fair chance at glory. Full details at http://ausxc.com/2013/06/16/victorian-ski-chase-2013/

I like the sound of that when you put it that way, I was so excited to see them train at falls, that would be quite awesome. I've got the DP pub to pub penciled in on my calendar in a months time so I'm upping my training right now. can't wait, its my first race

Nice choice for a first race. Always a good event at the Pub to Pub and the opportunity for a bit of socialising at the Dinner Plain Pub while waiting for the presentations is a bonus. And you can always come back for more later in the month at Falls Creek with the Rocky Valley Rush on the 18th and either the 21km or 7km at the Hoppet on the 24th.

Yes, I hear its quite a good race, Most of its downhill so I'm gonna really have to work on my step turn, at the moment I fall over a lot when doing one. I joined a ski club recently, Mt Bullfight, so I'm hoping theres a few people from there coming to support.

Might do the hoppet if I can afford to stay in falls sometime, I Believe it actually is an fis event, last year some russians won it I think, If petter northug was doing it, I think I would faint that would be so awesome.

And of course at lake mountain, perhaps the Bullfight charge depending how my one skate is going

They don't permit snowboarding at LM, it's only XC Skiing and tobogganing, it's pretty flat out there. I hear a beginners ski run is in the pipeline though.

I reckon a split boarder could get away with it but I don't reckon it'd be worth it. Who knows though there might be some good bc terrain hidden around there somewhere. Right now anyway there's only 1 cm of natural snow, perhaps a little more up higher, but it will melt quick.

Everyone is still coming back saying what a good time they're having. Sure, we're not talking about skiers, but all the snow-players are going up with not so great expectations and are having a ball

So how's LM doing, have you had a look up there today Teckel? fingers crossed for a good 30cm+ by the end of this system. Looks like the snow players out there are having a great time, looks golden up there! Meanwhile in Geelong I have been roller skiing like crazy, last minute training cram

Hope there is still decent 'snow play' snow next weekend. We are supposed to be going up there with some friends whose kids haven't seen snow before.

I think there will be, but get up early. I imagine half of Melbourne will plan to go next weekend. If you don't get there early, you'll probably be locked off the mountain. And make sure your friends hire their gear at the ski hire on the left side of the road in Narbethong. Always the first open, but we plan to be open even earlier at 6:30 am next weekend to cope with the expected influx

Do you reckon the XC trails get very busy seeing as its the first time to ski there this year? Does LM get very busy during the weekdays?

It's not just a matter of beating the gate closure, but also of getting to the top carpark. To be on the safe side, you really want to be on the mountain by 10am to get the top carpark, on a normal snowy weekend. But next weekend, I think much earlier - I would be saying 9am at the latest. (Gates to the resort open at 8am)

I had locals hire skis today for tomorrow, hoping that the trails will be groomed overnight. They'll be hitting the trails at first light. One guy has hired them for the whole week as he has the week off work, and wants to take full advantage of the snow while it lasts.
Weekdays at LM, ski trails are dominated by school groups. Evade the school groups, and you'll pretty much have it to yourself.

Well it sounds like the skiable snow drought has finally ended at lake mountain
smile.gif
, must be very good for your business teckel, can't wait to get up there. Did you say 15cm at 8am then 15cm on some cars, would that be around 30cm in total? It should hold up well hopefully as 'normal' temperatures are forecast after this systems done

Hopefully it stays cold & the mountain really makes it this year. I'm hoping the little XC areas hold their snow....this could be a good year for you if it does.

OK This might Be a Silly Question as I KNOW NOTHING about how Ski Resorts like this are run.....

But Can You Not Make Snow and Then Farm out to were it is Needed on the Trails?

They made a huge amount of snow this year and farmed it out to the beginner ski school area and 2 toboggan runs. It kept the region going while waiting for the first natural fall of the season. But with 56 km of ski trails, a bit hard to cover that length of trail.

Very enjoyable ski on teles this morning. Even 30 cm cover. Couple of lovely runs down Roystons, especially top half. Good vis in between fog below and light cloud above. Light winds, -ve temps and few skiers.
