Chris, after two, days of mild weather I am not sure if it would be worth the trouble but it might be worth a go as it has not rained. biggest problem on Friday was the falling frozen snow, it felt like skiing thru a minefield but I think it has all dropped. Hopefully Jarryd might post. cover was good on Friday but rocks and grass already showing thru!
I went up last minute on Friday as was waiting for plumber to come Thurday arvo. after 1.5 hours they have declared our heating boiler needs a pc board from Italy which will take 12 weeks to deliver so we are looking at $3500 for new boiler, or 4,500 for a Bosch!
    Ps happy birthday for Friday!

Returning skiers today: All had a good day, except for one couple who declared it as 'shit'. Which isn't too bad, as there was an hour's delay getting to Narby from Marysville because of trees down on the spur for most of the afternoon, and appalling traffic management by a bad-tempered cop.

But definitely not suitable for skating.

Yep. Should still be quite OK, Amtb. Provided they turn the snow guns on at night.

Cover has held up quite reasonably over the weekend. Walking back up the toboggan slope just before proved a very slippery experience so it should hold up alright until Tuesday. I haven't heard the plan for grooming tonight but I kicked about 10 people off the trails in the 3 minutes I was there today, so this combined with the warmth from today doesn't make it look favourable but I could be wrong.

The guns are still a little while off the temperature required to operate. Fingers crossed we get down to the magic -0.7 degrees needed for them to operate over the next few nights!

Plenty for a snowman, Amtb :) Had kids today proudly talking about their "snow darth vader".
wombatwal - people still really enjoyed skiing today (classic, not skating), although it will be a lot better if you wait for the next snow fall.

I think so SOU. Unless the high winds are bringing trees down. The winds up there this morning were close to gale force - and that was before they closed the mountain.

The problem Steve, is that there are lots of trees which were burnt 7.5 years ago, and high winds can bring them down, creating a significant danger.

    I like that approach wombatwal....

them bad trees they keep falling down every where...bad bad trees..

Teckel better get some more coffee/tea/sugar and milk supplies to cater for the tourists that may prefer to spend a day shopping in Narbethong...that Bakery in Marysville must be pulling in the dollars in these conditions..

Teckel who is chopping them trees of Lake Mt approach roads... Vicrds/their contractors,DSE,Lake Mt Resort Management or all 3...

No idea Steve. I don't even know if any came down. If it's the Marysville-Woods Point Rd, Vic Roads is responsible. If it's the road within the resort boundaries, it's either the resort or their contractors.

They have just closed the trails due to the wind at the moment. The snow is very windswept once again, with only around 1-2cm on the trails at the moment. Hopefully the snow continues as expected and we will have the trails opened in no time!

There is no base up there . If it rains on Thursday and Friday the fresh cover could be washed away to just turn to patchy ice. I might head up to Mt. Torbreck on Wed. for a day trip and summit walk in snow shoes or flexible cramp ons . I will have to get chains en route.

I was hoping the resort would answer Matthew's question, but. Yes, there should still be plenty of snow on the weekend, unless we have torrential rain on Thursday and Friday, which as far as I am aware, is not forecasted.

Mission: Mt Torbreck , the mission is on tomorrow! .Some hikers went up there on Sunday and posted photos of snow and happy hikers on the Mt. Torbreck Facebook webpage. This means the roads are probably clear of fallen trees and access has not been impeded by obstacles from Friday's windy weather.

It was great yesterday. Once you past the school kids, you have the whole mountain to yourself. I hardly passed by anyone on the trails apart from meeting 2 skiers while resting at The Gap. :) The Jubilee Link to Woollybutt wasn't groomed though.
Overall snow cover was awesome. We drove home when it just started snowing hard around 2.30pm because we didn't want to put the snow chains on. :p

Will it rain much in the next couple of days? Don't want the snow to melt away.

I agree with EB. Conditions were pretty good yesterday although it helped to be as high as possible. Lower down it started to get sticky. I saw 2 people on the trail during my 1 hour romp between 9:45 and 10:45. One chap who inexplicably was going around Panorama the wrong way and a guy stopped at the top of Royston's who I called Nanook for some unknown reason, which I will put down to my being completely knackered at that point.

I was at Falls Creek on 22.8.16. It is a rather different picture there now. Maybe somebody could build another 400 Metres of elevation across the LM plateau to increase the snow fall ;-P ?

Even on the upper ski trails (100m higher than the car park) there is natural snow.

They're not automatic cameras. They go up there each morning, take the photos, then post them. So one pic per day only.

6 photos are taken every day at the major intersections then uploaded, currently fair skiing on all the upper trails but there are some gaps & holes as expected after the heavy rain.

The area on Lake Mt. near the boundary hut ruins that look toward Mt . Bullfight usually has some good snow if there is any real snow up there. That is near the highest point on the plateau. Why not have a snow camera there?.

    An email I received:
    Good afternoon,

We wanted to remind you that there is one week left of the Mt Baw Baw and Lake Mountain 2030 project, make sure you have your say if you have not already.

All Australian alpine areas are facing uncertainties to their futures including the effects of climate change, changing tourism and recreation industries and a shift in visitor demographics.

We need to hear from everyone to plan for the future of Mt Baw Baw and Lake Mountain alpine resorts. The outcome of this project will be a set of recommendations that will enable the Victorian Government to make a decision to ensure that the resorts remain a sustainable part of alpine tourism.

Please visit the project websites to read the Future Directions Papers and provide your feedback on the future options for each resorts.

Feedback on the future options will conclude on Sunday 4 September.

    Warm regards

Lake Mt. and Mt Baw Baw both look like lost causes at the Moment. We are driving up to camp at Mountain creek ( Tawonga ) on Friday night and spending the weekend snow camping / snow shoe trekking near Falls Ck. They still have some real snow up there . The rainfall this week will decimate all the lower lesser snow spots.

Ariane, the mountain has assured us that they will continue making snow, and tobogganing will certainly be an option for the coming weekend.
