    None.

And not likely to be any anytime soon.

Property Perfect have a hotel centric way of running the ski resort :(

New beginner run from Kiroro base area back to The Kiroro.

Yes. My understanding is it will drop above the existing beginner fixed double chair.

It can't be helped if they are targeting Thai and the other Southeast Asian mainly, though. I mean, the ropeway to Juhyo at Zao Onsen is often crowded with Taiwanese without ski gears. They come to ski resorts to see snow, rather than to ski / snowboard there. It basically never snows in Southeast Asia, including Thailand. Property Perfect is a Thai company, and if they are mainly targeting guests from Southeast Asia, no wonder if they have a hotel centric way. Kiroro is very good for powderhounds and it can become even a lot better.

This would be fine if the hotel was the money maker and the mountain the cherry on top.

Unfortunately it's the other way round.

Ok, so it's right next to the Tokyo Maritime Museum at Odaiba.

Odaiba is one area that probably few tourists visit (particularly the winter snow crowds), but it has a great combination of open spaces, a few museums, interesting modern tourist spots and loads of shopping. There also about 5 hotels around there.
My daughter's favourite shopping is there (Diver City).

Tattoo-friendly onsens are increasing recently and you can use this kind of items to cover your tattoos if the tattoos are small enough.

It happened in mid March 2011, so I think it didn't affect the number of the tourists coming to Japan for skiing in 2011 much but affected the number of Asian tourists coming to Japan between spring and autumn a lot. I think Hokkaido is still more popular as a green season destination than a winter season destination among Asian tourists. I played golf in Niseko area in summer, and I felt 70 - 80% there were Asian tourists:eek:

LOL if they did the same plot from 1988 to 1997 it would probably look similar except you would have to drop the last 3 digits on the numbers on the left. In 1990 the week I was there the number was 3. Happy to have moved on after 2001.

Laforet Club Hotel near Hakuba Happo One ski resort is re-opening as Marriott hotel this December. Mori Trust is the owner of Laforest Club Hotel and Mori Trust will build and open a new ski-in / ski-out Hotel in Sakka area of Happo One.

Last year, Asia Gate Holdings bought Madarao. Asia Gate Holdings bought Appi Kogen, the biggest ski resort in Tohoku in 2016 as well. The headquarters of Asia Gate Holdings is in Tokyo now but I think it's basically almost a Hong Kong based company in that very rich people in Hong Kong are investing in properties in Japan through Asia Gate Holdings. For them, owning and running ski resorts is a new business. I mean, they used to own golf resorts in Japan but not ski resorts.

Asia Gate Holdings don't own Tangram but only Madarao. Tokyu Corporation own Tangram. Tokyu is a railway company but own many ski resorts such as Niseko Grand Hirafu in Hokkaido, Gran Deco in Fukushima, etc.

Thanks Ramenman, Who owns Geto Kogen? I see a lot of similarities between the two resorts.

X-project Group bought Geto Kogen from Kamori Kanko a few years ago. X-project Group and MacEarth are companies saving dying Japanese ski resorts. I mean, they've been buying Japanese ski resorts on the verge of bankruptcy. Actually, before Asia Gate Holdings bought Madarao, MacEarth used to own Madarao. Both X-project Group and MacEarth set tree run zones a lot more than average Japanese ski resort owners and that might be why you see a lot of similarities between the two resorts. I think they can't afford to invest a lot in dying ski resorts by replacing lifts, etc, so they set tree run zones instead because it doesn't cost much, I guess. The headquarters of X-project Group moved to Hakuba village from Tokyo this year.

Yes Madarao is owned by a Japanese company that is owned by Chinese people. We met with them recently. They have big plans for year round activities. They also own the White House that has recently been semi demolished. And there is quite a bit of interaction between Appi and Madarao. i have been told Seki san, GM at Madarao, goes to Appi with his chain saw for a bit of R&R.

Tokyu also own a hotel at Hakuba. I was told by someone who would know that it is the best hotel in Hakuba.

There are Toyku department stores as well. I am not sure if that is the same company though.

So a Hong Kong bussiness’s primary concern would be shifting cash off shore?

Yes, Tokyu department stores are also Tokyu group. I like Tokyu department stores, Tokyu Hands, etc.

    About Tokyu Group : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyu_Group

Speaking of Appi, they'll expand tree run zones a lot, especially the tree run zone 1 = Attack is great. 600,000 square meters of tree run zones in total is impressive.

Appi have two gondolas, but I heard this yellow one won't run in 18 - 19 season. They'll replace it with a new one in the near future?.

It's been closed since September 18th and will be closed till December 21st. It's under renovation to open as Courtyard by Marriott Hakuba on December 22nd. 27 rooms will be completely new. I mean, they have 45 rooms now and they'll renovate the 45 rooms and newly build 27 rooms. They say the 27 rooms will have onsen with a great view.

Nintendo filed a lawsuit against Maricar Go-Kart company and Nintendo finally won this week. It's been a popular attraction among tourists from abroad to Tokyo but you might not be able to try it any longer.

    Damn!
Does that judgement shut them down?

It was a fun thing to do. But you just had to know it’d get shut down eventually. I thought it’d be for safety reasons rather than licensing though.

No, the judgement won't shut them down yet. They can't use Nintendo's characters any longer and they need to pay compensation to Nintendo for copyright infringement. I also thought it'd get shut down eventually due to safety reasons but the judgement doesn't mention safety reasons this time as far as I heard. I guess they will continue the go-kart without Nintendo costumes, ah, they might wear Disney costumes instead:rolleyes:?

I wore a Cookie Monster hoody anyway - most of the decent gear was already out. It matters not what you wear - BYO!
If it’s still going - even without the dress ups - it’s worth doing. I’m glad we did. Just make sure you have an International Drivers licence.

Something bizarrely exhilarating about driving a go cart at 80k an hour on the motorway alongside a semi o_O

We are going for the RWC, be good to still be able to do it then.

Yes, I personally don't care at all if there isn't the gondola, but a few flat slopes around the bottom station of the gondola will be closed if the gondola doesn't run. Those flat slopes around the bottom station might be good for first timers and young kids.

That is a lot. Probably costs them next to nothing as well. Couple dudes with a chainsaw?

I hope a lot more resorts start copying them, that is cheap and makes customers happy.

I assume they'll keep them. Actually, they had renovated many parts of the hotel already by this summer, and I guess Dining & Bar LAVAROCK had been already renovated when you stayed there this month. They've been closed since September 18th mostly for building 27 rooms with onsen newly.

If they had recently renovated the bar and dining room that would explain why they were so pleased we really liked them. It was a but surreal seing the solid timber table and bar as I had just installed a similar bar at my place. It was like seeing the finished product of what we are doing. But we did not know about it before we arrived.

I noticed Zendana Bowl and Wase have become "Free Riding Zone" in Arai's new trail map. I think they were "Permanently Closed Area" in the trail map last year.

I'm not sure when they started the zip tour but the video above was filmed in February, so it was there in February 2018 already. Lotte Arai resort is trying to be a four seasons resort like Tomamu, Appi, etc, and they have many all year around activities including the long zip tour.
