 A big thumbs up to FCSL Lift Ops for the job they have done with new operator training this season. Knowing they had over 60 rookies I am really impressed with how smoothly things have gone for the start of the season.

clearly, only a very small number, judging by the level of activity of these guys during the peak periods in the school holidays

The good ones were fantastic, actively managing the 3 queues and getting the chairs as full as possible

However, there is some room for improvement for the majority....

More to the point, that is some horrific staff retention.

Even in a seasonal, casualised work force.

Yeah, they did have a bad year for staff turnover heading into this season....at all levels. There have been other years in my time when I was with the Lift Co that you would have a low number of returners in the one season, if it continues next year I'd call it a pattern that needs urgent attention.

The maze layout at Halley's is terrible. It makes the job of organizing people into 4's that much harder.

Not Lift Ops..... the change to the queue race has been driven by Guest Services, I don't think Lift Ops like it. Makes no sense have 3 scanning gates in the queue you're asking people to form 4s. Also singles just slipping through and reforming with their mates had become a significant problem.

I haven't actually looked at the setup this year. I thought the plan was to take 2 sets of triple gates from the old eagle and set them up as a 4 + a singles lane + a ski school lane. Has that not happened or does it just not work?

Notice how there are more interstate hometowns on the name tags? At brother Hotham, I have noticed this over the last few years.

Perhaps word is getting out around Victoria that the dream, glamour and image of the seasonaire has faded along with the pay and conditions and increasingly, only the young naive from states with no snow are interested nowadays?

6 day work weeks sound common...

I didn't think they there has been any significant change in Vic:interstate ratios to what it has been. A big difference I see is that last season they seemed to have a much higher number of internationals, particularly Taiwan, Hong Kong etc that there aren't this year (a token Singaporean). This could also be one cause of low return rate this season.

Don't think this will help much. There should be 4 scanning gates and you should be formed into a 4 by the time you reach the gate. The layout of the maze makes it very difficult to effectively marshal people.

Yep, don't get me started. This is how it was designed to work but nobody since it was installed have managed the queue this way....;)
