Hi all - first time poster, long time lurker!

Planning a Falls trip this year. What happens in the week either side of the Kangaroo Hoppet? I imagine the village gets chokkas, but how about the DH runs and lifts - are they extremely busy?

I don't know much about XC you see...

    Cheers

most downhillers at Falls the week before the Hoppet would be unaware of it. For the weekend and especially on the day, parking is a nightmare. Not a good day for a day trip. But otherwise it is not an impediment to enjoying a week on the lifts.

some xc skiiers do do a bit on the lifts, but it is not a significant increase on numbers of downhillers.

The week after the hoppet is not really effected by it. Late August is getting pretty cruisey, especially midweek

Totally agree with this, we've left on the day of the Hoppet the last three years and the traffic on the day was the only indication we could see.
Go in August, its generally peak snow, cheaper accom and you can easily get in to get a feed too. We're stuck with July for the next 8 years, education is overrated

I should say that the hoppet is an amazing event and its worth popping down to the nordic bowl to see the start or some of the finishers. In the days leading up to the hoppet you may see same top skiiers training on the sun valley loop that passes close to Scott chair, ruined castle and Lakeside. The current olympic champion won the hoppet too - some years we get some very good skiers.

The night sprints are worth a look as well. Some of the world's top xc skiers on a short course in the Village Bowl under lights. Great atmosphere.

Thanks CCC (curra, conners & chris)
That's very reassuring. And it's clearly something that adds to the experience and an opportunity to broaden my horizons!
