"Hardware alley" in ChCh is the area about 2 streets south (towards the Port hills) of Cathedral square - I think it's Oxford Terrace, but that might be way out. Anyway, there's Mainland Sports, Mountain Designs, Bivouac, Kathmandu and a few others within spitting distance of each other. I think Mainland does hire stuff. This close to the weekend you could be pushing it uphill to find hire gear. Enjoy the flight. K
