Under a decent one atm. (cheltenham)
radar looks solid for the arvo also
Sun is out in Canberra. Blink and you'll miss it.
It's warmed a bit now, places getting above 0.
That's one big lake though..
In 2nd change of clothes.
Heavy showers still here in Mt Eliza
very solid weather day in sunbury all day....last couple of hours things have mellowed somewhat...stopped raining for now..
we will be monitoring BHP RD closure closely over next couple of days as some work ops still to be done if possible...
Ropers Hut just got firewood working bee completed in nick of time :which is how we thought things would pan out...
We've had some very heavy showers here in Brighton over the past hour.
Bucketing down here in St Kilda rd. Not really looking forward for the ride home.
And now the sun is out.
Sunny at top of Collins St ATM..
Shame about the temps because the radar looks epic
Yeah that'd be perfect for buller, LM and BB right now. A sneaky 10-15 with some nice heavy showers.
15.2 , turning heater on what are ya , soft or something . Just joe king
ok - at Tumbarumba, 32.4 mm in my rain bucket , min temp -1 max 5 temp dropping again will probably get negative again tonight. Some really heavy clouds rolling over from about 4.30 pm.
Yeah was saying that when I was walking to lunch today, the sun is just a few weeks too high in the sky still.
Straw falling in South Perisher
It's pretty evident at the moment why FL's haven't dropped. The uppers are hardly ideal for resort (or sub-resort level snow) at least not until tomorrow! - I mentioned this the other day.
As of 7pm tonight, GFS has forecasted upper level temps over the alps as:
Friday has the slightly cooler SW flow and pronounced by a rogue cold pool pushing up to the west of the ranges, albeit virtually useless to the mainland Alps.
Saturday is cooler again but the precip won't be there.
good precipitation/snow being recorded by perisher weather station. There is a bit of juice still left in the first stage.
That's it in a nutshell. If you had a look at the latest Melbourne sounding you'd also see it.
I tried looking for the sounding but could only find the latest published sounding as 25MAY 12Z?? Where do you get yours from mate?
2300UTC mate, so about what, 9am, 10am this morning?
The night vision probably makes it look better than it is, but seems to be a nice cover of snow accumulating.
Doesn't feel that cold in Sydney CBD, but the wind has gotten stronger through the night.

Baw Baw should be getting some looking at obs.. Collision course on Sat image looks interesting
Looking nice on Buller VS cam ATM.
sure looks purdy in pink at present....you need to see 7am cams for this
Guns on Hotham cam
Once again Perisher get their guns going and Thredbo doesn't... Currently -3.9 Thredbo top station and heading down, -3 at Thredbo Village and -2.1 Perisher Valley... Why no SM at Thredbo?
Obviously they don't want to have anything skiable for opening day...........Once again looks like I'll be heading to the village 8 @ Perisher for first day on snow.
Those cams sure do look good. Would interesting to see baw baw cams.
Different guns and different topography at Thredbo and Perisher.
I observe Perisher have turned the guns off. Thought they would have them cranking on FV and goats gulley right now to try and build up as much as possible.
Re: snow guns
Whilst temps look good for next 5 days to make snow, most models going for a warm inland rain event at the back end of reliable chart range.
Hopefully that stays North
This morning if you look at the radar you can clearly see the disturbance caused by King Island in Bass Strait, and the showers it's creating in the Eastern subs of Melbourne and Western Gippsland.
With 2 weeks between now and the opening of the season, you'd really only be cranking out the snow guns (and spending money) if you were confident on a return (read: some of it remaining for opening).
Flurries being reported in Thredbo Village just now on FB
Snow at LM overnight
glad we fitted the Maxxis 573 Bravo tyres to our butt....
whether any of this snow makes it to middle of next week is the question????
Kyneton/Carlsruhe cold but still this morning..sun is out all is good..
From Baw Baw FB
Good for Baw Baw.
They were always going to get some once this system went Sthly
Ha - snow gun angst in may ahead of a warm spell
ahh that's how we measure snow depth in OZ. like in millimetres.......in the States well u probably couldnot see the vehicle by now!!!!where they measure in meters.....
Handy temperature page https://www.perisher.com.au/weather-cams/weather-stations/current-conditions
There would be some doubt in Perishers mind re next week, SO they will wait till later today, the humidity may have dropped lower than the right mark.. Not much use making sloppy stuff..
Just bucketed down in Adelaide and with the rain the temps dropped from 15 to 11
Heavy rain and hail in Traralgon right now
A nice batch of higher moisture content snow to sit on top of the cool stuff that fell overnight. That should help make it a bit more resistant to rain at the end of the cycle, especially if it freezes nicely/
