I observe it's decidedly chilly here in the Adelaide Hills today. A little bit of thunder and sweeps of hail every now and then.
It does look pretty good. Good sign for what's on your way in the east. Really good amount of rain too. Dropped to 10c in the city now too.
Hilarious that a few flakes drifting around is newsworthy here compared to some other snow destinations o/s where they only get excited if its more than about 30cm overnight I figured the excitement factor is about 10:1. If you get 3cm here its exciting, 30cm in certain Northern Hemi resorts. 150cm annual snowfall here, 1500cm annual snowfall there
thought sloppy stuff was good for base? will freeze and keep ground cool? Even might sell some accomodation if people see some white stuff on the ground manmade or not?
Cedar Lodge Cam at Falls Ck is telling us that this is not a big event so far....so far not enough snow even for rabbits to play in.....
It all comes down to being able to access your terrain that you can get to and feel comfortable with. I reckon there must have been20 to 30 cm of snot up the main range, based on temps at the top of thredbo and rain guage at perisher . Its start and need a few more dumps to get it going. Like tonight.
Not like skiing fresh but the man mad early last winter was very good quality for groomers. SUrprised me as my earlier experience was that it made solid block of ice type groomers.
perhaps. I'm below an amateur weather person. Obs for Canberra today are "Feels like Winter" Hasn't really gotten over 11 and with wind chill has felt about 7 degrees when I've ventured out. People are scurrying around hating it while I'm secretly loving the wild wind and cooler temps. Feels like somethings on the horizon......
Meh, I went to Fyshwick at lunch, just slacks and shirt, don't want to be outside for too long though
Weatherstation says possible snow falls tonight at FallsCk above 1200m ...Team Bears r a bit worried by the wording "possible' sounds a bit hit and miss to T.Bears...there present temp around minus 1C and expected to fall to minus 5 later tonight... Kossy Trail towards Rawsons seems to be picking up and holding some snow though at this time....
Was reading that comment and thinking exactly the same thing (Perisher) once they had a base down, the man made in the mornings was squeaky underfoot (boot) I will always remember that.
There is a certain chill to the air tonight , first time I have really felt that this year. Temp guage in machinery shed says 1c but damn if it dont feel a bit colder than that. Almost time to set the first fire for the year.
Windy as **** flying into Sydney this afternoon... Wind chill made it feel colder than Melbourne was this morning
Back from three days bushwalking in Kanangra Boyd NP in NSW. Temps today didn't get above 3 degrees, blowing a gale, and observed some sleet whilst hiking at 8pm last night.
I dare say it will just brush past the alps and they will get something, Have a look at the satellite loop . Its rolling like a wheel but its rolling toward the ENE. Would have been very nice if it had centred over Melbourne and tracked due east. AXS R gives it 5-10mm to 10am tomorrow.
Snow guns going again on front valley. Just started a few minutes ago. http://www.mountainwatch.com/snow-cams/Australia/Perisher?cameraId=20001
Looks like it. But that low is starting to head north east (have a look whats going on near Adelaide right now) and it will take the bulk of that swirling band of cloud with it before it reaches the alps. Panning out exactly like AXS R predicted. Have a look at the precipitation forecast on the AXS R chart. Heavy strip of precipitation about where the dense cloud band is now (about 100-200km to the north west of the alps).
