Ok, better create an observation thread for this event.

Looks pretty, but not a whole lot of penetration, most of the good stuff appears to be sliding south.

Windy day in Thredbo (119km/h gusts at the top - nice). Rain on and off. Had some sago-ish hail earlier. Not a real lot of moisture around though, really

Lashing wind and rain on the North coast of Tassie atm. The Cradle web cam looks surprisingly benign by comparison with my view out the window. I might have to crack out the XC skis this weekend and head south for an explore, Mt Field/Rufus could do well out of this.....

I'll highlight some obs from Maatsuyker Island off the south coast of Tassie. Pressure has just bottomed out at 974hpa. This is a very intense little system powering through. Very long fetch, 40hpa below 'standard' pressure, wind speed of 104km/h gusts 117km/h I think the coast would be an impressive sight.

Probably a mix of selling tickets and backing the weather for the next week to lay down a base for opening weekend...

This morning AXS looks like a season starter on 13 May. More precipitation than GFS due to a more westerly flow. Still a long way out.

I observe that Perisher will make snow whenever they can from here-on.

    http://www.perisher.com.au/media-room/latest-press-releases/575-snowmaking-2015.html

    Perisher has begun making snow!

Perisher’s snowmaking team fired up the snowmaking system early this morning for the first time in 2015. Recent cold temperatures have created the perfect conditions for our snowmaking team to begin building the resort’s base in anticipation of opening weekend, June 6, which will mark the start of the Australian ski season.

John Palmer, Perisher Snowmaking Manager says, “The first snowmaking days of the year are always an exciting time. It generates lots of talk about the upcoming winter right through the industry. Perisher makes the most snow in Australia providing the best possible conditions for our guest’s right through the winter, and it’s nice to get an early start. We will continue to make snow at every opportunity now to make sure we kick of the season with good conditions for all.”

Looks like another band of rain just about to pass through metro melb.
Short and sharp not heaps in it but the wind has picked back up again with it and its grey and gloomy out.
    Might get 1-2mm max.

Yeh, a very thin line, probably just enough to get everything wet.

Indeed! A very convincing dusting on Mt Rolad this morning which is a lovely view from my back door step. There is a gentle breeze and a bit of frost here at 50m ASL and 3kms from the coast. My weekend XC trip may be a goer......

Since that westerly flow set in yesterday AM we've seen some good drops of temps overnight and pockets of good falls. Buller had a noteworthy; 16mm of precip in the last 15-16 hours. Could pick up some more as it loves WNW inbound action. Temps will be marginal after late PM today though.

A positively active system ahead of winter, I think.

It's straight west at Buller. That means rain down to -2C
    And the cams show that.
