Shouldn't need chains today if you've a decent car.
No 4wd..what! I trust this isn't a permanent arrangement.
Bought a Yaris..
which is kinda like liking a 5 week blocking high
What happened to that sticker plastered jeep?
Mulching in the miserable mornington peninsula drizzle.
You have to punctuate this with at least one weather observation.
Rather pleasant in Wentworth Falls although I observe lots of jackets scarves and beanies being worn. Breeze is a bit brisk
They go well with the purple pashmina crowd.
Much more settled in Melbourne this am.
Filtered sun & brighter sky. Wet footpaths but not many showers around! (Good for Bb & LKMtn)
Wasnt as chilly this morning as yesterday.
Yesterday arvo was pretty brisk.
Love this weather, but now looking forward to some nice weather this weekend.
very thick and frozen dew over everything in mid sydney this morning...
Correction - with benefit of Altitude in cbd - still a few showers to the east of Melb - esp in hills!
Coldest day of the year today in mildura it feels like.
Car is saying 12 deg outside in the sun.
Yesterday was the coldest Melbourne day since August 20th last year.
feels like heat wave in Melb Western Suburbs compared to yesterday....weather moderated.....it was too cold for T.Bears to go to Kittens Last night even!!!
Looks like it was more than a taste of winter for this guy!!!
Pix from yesterday. Click to make big.
But my eyes hurt from the background
Is this the Maltese Cross T-bar?
Boo, you are the man.
Don't think ,just do.
I love the line...The snow gums were still dressed in their autumn colours and looked almost as startled as me to find themselves in so much snow.
The pictures of the gum trees are fantastic. Great work.
Beautiful, and i love the story telling, you have the gift of wording the pictures.
good skiing , firm base
shame its going to all melt by mid next week
love yer work boodwah...baw baw is the best for out of season tracks.....love the pics of the snow on the antarctic beech, it is a magic place up top on your own....and usually so calm even if theres a storm raging down below and overhead
smart taking the tools for the trees. twice now when I had a 2wd I could sneak under the fallen trees (once I took off the roof racks) whilst bigger cars were stuck. these days with the bfo 4wd I would take the stihl and snatch straps.....
My brother at Burrawang (near Robertson) in Southern Highlands had snow there and settled. Have heard a number of reports from that area.
Yeah , few stormchasers on FB posted as much too..
Little bit of trivia... for our Victorian friends ..
Robertson is (pretty much) by road exactly the same distance from the gong 48 kays as Olinda , sky high is from Melbourne GPO.
That snow close to a city syndrome.
How often does it occur?
snow in robertson used to occur alot more...when I first moved here I remember it being a yearly thing or so.
I remember two instances in one year seeing the escarpment coated in white in the 90's ( i used to drive to work that way).
This is prob the only recent pic- ten years ago
Though I know it doesn't snow in Olinda as much as it used to.
Grew up in Bowral '75-85: it would snow most years, sometimes twice. No school days...
Possibly 3 times a year?
I don't think so anymore
Robertson , nah...
I know its all bs anecdotal stuff... but early 90's...mike larken would be saying snow level of 800 lowering to 600 nearly every week for NSW.
Yeah , my memories of early 90's were similar
Unless you went to boarding school there.
I reckon that what we have been getting. Mind you, I wouldn't even call it a dusting. Perhaps just getting flakes for 10 minutes or so.
The last good "dump" was the first year I lived in Melbourne - August 1995. That day the snow line was 2/3 the way down Mt Dandenong and the decking at home in East Burwood was covered in grapnel. Might have been 30cm at the top of the hill.
Last time I seen snow in melbs was 2nd August or so 2004... but it didn't stick.
was snowing near skyhigh... snot, then turned to rain as we drove towards emerald.
funny it actually got colder as we drove that side...but its in the lee no?
Yeah over the back there mate when the SW is blowing it's in the lee
Today it has drizzled/light rain since I got out around 8:40. It hasn't really let up all day and drizzling now going home. Miserable day
A little bit more moisture for sodden catchments - upper Yarra would have done well these last few days
i observe it was super wet at baw baw today. raining very hard all the way from the turnoff off the freeway - baw baw.
didnt bother bringing skins as the runs are so short, thought id bootpack and get a bit more fitness training in. wouldnt have needed skins to climb up anyway it was like skiing on a slurpee. unfortunately i was busy yesterday!
still great to get out there amongst it and cruise down the runs in a straight line, turns were not possible by the time i started skiing at about 1pm.
Big frost today in Canberra.
How many degrees?
Obs say -4.7C
nah a one degree frost is a foot...two degrees two feet etc.
a six degree frost is head high.
Te Puke kiwifruit farmer hat on (albeit grandson of)
Concur, Boodwah your blog pics were sooooo awesome, your flock are magic, pics were spectacular. You are a man after my own heart, big ups for the pics.
Pardon me CC for some tangential snow Obs nostalgia!
...FWIW: in about 95 or 96' (early Sept) I skied just below SkyHigh Mt Dandenong in about 10 cm slush. It was short, desperate and dark (made a passing police,an look twice!). But skiing at 600m less than 40 km from Melbourne CBD (& home) was certainly a night to remember.
Of course in about 1985/6 after a unusually heavy snowfall, we could clearly make out snow down the top 1/3 fire trails of Mt Dandenong from Monash uni ~ 30 km away. I don't think I've seen such a fall since. maybe the 95/6 event as described.
Now a dusting is a big occasion!! <SIGH!>
I notice Brisbane is currently hovering around 10C; the second coldest capital city @ 9pm AES. Must be Blue Moon tonight...
Brisbane AWS gets cold.
Though the fact sydneys is next to the ocean doesn't help
Cold today in Bris
Yes I even had to close my windows tonight it was getting that cold !
