Getting absolutely belted in Dee why, amazing that heavy falls aren't included in the forecast given the rates - heavier than a lot of the March event

The radar shows showers about Sydney moving in from the ESE, some of which have orange cores, even a red pixel or two. It's the luck of the draw whether you're hit by heavy rain.

Here it's been cloudy, brighter than yesterday, with a few passing showers. The Sun even put in a brief appearance. There's been 2 mm in the City and 5 mm at Chatswood since 9:00.

Indeed Steve, good thing they were fast moving otherwise would've had some water problems - ridiculously heavy around midday huge drops too.

Me thinks the peak for Sydney will be tomorrow afternoon onwards, probably be a 2nd wave of widespread rain kind of what's hitting Illawarra atm.

After the Rain comes a mini heatwave - mid 20s for Sydney. Then, in about a week’s time, a cold outbreak? It’s in GFS and Access, the blue line North of Sydney and the 850 zero isotherm over the Central Tablelands. There’s moisture with the system, so snow for the Alpine areas and maybe a bit lower down and further North, possibly even the Central Tablelands?

EC is less keen but it still sees a big cool-down.

We shall see.

EDIT: Far king nailing down is the worst kind.

Hammering cats n dogs ?
Nuking!

Regardless. It looks like the focus is sharp on you guys .

As this low starts to shape up overnight it will be very localised imo.
Rain trains and downpours.

It’s a fine, calm evening here tonight. The sky features some low cloud (~ 1 km above) and stars (trillions of km). There’s been little or no rain in several hours. The “look out the window” test, normally a good guide, has been indicating since lunch time that this event is winding down here.

However, the forecast, the models and commentary here say different. I expect that Phase 2 will get underway tomorrow morning.

I don't think that's correct, I reckon at least half that again.

The “look out the window” test says it’s grey, wet and windy. The thermometer actually says it’s fairly warm, around 17-18° across Sydney, although it won’t get much warmer during the day.

The rain resumed around 3:00 AM. Rainfall across Sydney since 9:00 yesterday has been mostly in the range 10-20 mm, lighter in the outer West. There were heavier falls on the coast and hinterland South of Wollongong, with a number of sites scoring over 100 mm. The highest looks to be 192 mm at Mongarlowe, in an elevated area between Ulladulla and Braidwood.

EDIT: Sydney OH has had nearly 10 mm in 20 minutes.

Wet, windy and unpleasant at my campsite in belanglo southern highlands this morning.

A lot of surface water that wasn’t there last night.

Promises to be a soggy day for my students today.

Off topic.
Its bin night (morning.)

Would you ensure your bin is lid down and packed down in a howling sou easterly?

Obviously not if you live in my street.

Wind and rain is bashing down my street at present.
BOM were a bit late/undercooked this system IMO in the media.

Sydney has received 43 mm from this event so far. The forecast totals for the first two days was 18 - 35 mm.

It's stopped raining for now, there's even been a bit of sun, but the updated forecast is still going for "Rain periods, windy" with 100% chance of rain - you don't often see 100%. Certainly the bit about "windy" is right, with a gust of 80 kph at the Airport and 104 kph at Wattamolla.

Statistical trivia:
- today's minimum at OH (15.3°) occurred at 9:00 yesterday
- yesterday's maximum (18.9°) occurred at 9:00 today

On the North Shore today it was pretty uneventful: a mild, fairly windy and mostly cloudy day with a few light showers and some sunny breaks.

Rainfall recorded at Chatswood since 9:00 AM is 4 mm, following 12 mm to 9:00, for an event total of just 29 mm to 4:00 PM.

Sun and lots of blue sky here and, at around 18°, fairly warm. There’s still lots of rain to the South, however.

Falls over Sydney since 9:00 yesterday morning grade from under 10 mm in the North to around 30 mm in the South, with 15 mm in the City. There were heavier falls in the Illawarra and hinterland, with a number of sites scoring over 100 mm.

The Event total for the City is now 59 mm, Bankstown 49 mm. To choose one often soggy Illawarra site, Robertson has an event total to date of 259 mm, half of which has fallen since 0900.

Anyway, that’s enough rain. It can clear up now.
