    Hey,

I'm trying to sort my plans for the next few weeks and I'm trying to find a bus service from Melbourne to Perisher but I'm having no luck. It seems like all the bus companies only do the Canberra to Perisher route. Back tracking up there just seems like a waste of time since it looks like Perisher is only 6 hours from Melbourne.

I'm starting my season on June 8th so if anyone knows a better way to make it up there from Melbourne I would be really grateful.

    Thanks in advance.

Going via Canberra will take over 8 hours, via Bairnsdale would be the better option probably and get you there earlier as well.

I think this was the bus link you wanted http://www.snoexpress.com.au/

Then again, maybe the north to Canberra is the best option as it seems almost impossible to get something from Cooma up to Perisher.

The good thing about buses, is you are not going to get slugged for luggage, so if you are going to work the season, they are a great option..

Catch with them all is that their services are infrequent.

This isn't France, where there are a few buses running everyday up to the mountains all season long.

    We only lost 2..

One that "claimed" she was leaving the next day [IMG]

The other because I thought we were leaving Tahoe and not returning, but we changed plans, should have obtained her number

They were not MILFs either [IMG]

Deanes Transport operates a day service from Canberra to Thredbo during peak season which include Cooma picks up and Bullocks Flat drop-offs. The service is called the Alpine Express. You may need to overnight in Cooma to connect with the V line service.

You have baggage limitations on a flight however.... If someone is taking their own gear up, could be an issue.

silly of me to actually think that a snow dedicated service would actually be operational during the snow season? [IMG]

Thanks for the help so far guys. Planning on just flying up to Canberra and bussing from there. Although after going through all these links its starting to look like none of them start up soon enough.

I never thought this would be so difficult. Hell I've done 2 seasons in Japan and they were both easy compared to doing one down here so far.

Transport is not good out of season.
Another option from Cooma is to catch the School bus, to Jindabyne at 3.20pm . This service is operated by Snowliner and will take paying passengers. Countrylink also operates a bus from Canberra to Cooma (Bombala service) on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Most that say they go to Perisher drop you at the tube at Bullocks Flat, that won't be a problem if you are staff.
Greyhound have a bus running from Canberra to Thredbo at 11:30 am on the 8th for $82.18. It should stop at the tube, call and ask.

If you can't work out how to get from airport to bus depot in Canberra. PM me and I might be able to give you a lift if I am around.

(where is it anyways, never used public transport here!)

There used to be an airliner bus from the airport to Civic, but it no longer runs. The interstate bus centre is in the Jolimont centre on Northborne (Novotel building)

I'm going to bump this. We've just booked in a week at Perisher mid August (here come the Gringo's) Looking at travel options now, we'll most likely drive from Melbourne but I thought it was worth seeing if anyone does a private shuttle Mel - Perisher?

I'd be keen to know too. We're heading up for the first week of August, 4-9. At this stage we'll be driving, taking 2 days each way to give a little breathing space with a 3yo.

I have looked at some of the options from Canberra airport, with the Murrays Bus being the cheapest, but not viable unless we fly into CBR the day before, and take the little one out of ski school early.

Yeah, we'll definitely be stopping off in a country town for a night on the way. Our 5yr old will go crazy sitting still for that long. I looked into flying to Canberra and then catching a bus. Cheapest it could be done for was approx $1500= not worth it.
