GFS and EC have the main band of rainfall further west this morning.
Stunning day. Nice light breeze. Just hit 27c. Quite hazy looking out over the yarra valley, good day for burning off.
Still a real mixed bag on forecast rain totals for tomorrow. BOM are remaining very conservative (10-15mm here), and given past form they will likely be correct. The model outputs are yet again ridiculously over-the-top.
And check out that dust over the Bight. It's like half the Great Victoria Desert has gotten airborne!
Pollen levels are already sky high here. Very noticeable in the PM10 readings at the various air quality stations around the State.
Early morning walk and the view from Donvale to Box Hill showed some decent dust haze at lower levels.
The grain crops here are really ripening quickly and filling the air with dust.
SCC Severe Weather chart for the week ahead and storm chart for tomorrow. #active
Desperate to get something tomorrow like what SA got tonight!
Looks like GFS has it pegged to the west of the city, in a line north from Cape Otway. At least the people to the east can keep their power on this time.
Some nice little bubbling up on the eastern horizon this morning catching the rising sun rays
Yawn. Overcast, cool, ... No trigger. Maybe just a little bit of leftover rain this evening. Can't see more than 15mm in it.
Nah there is alot of juice in this one.
I reckon it will deliver. The band behind the first is developing rapidly.
Got some patchy rain, well ahead of model expectations.
Meant to be enjoying the new outdoor dining at The Grand this evening.... may be a washout!!
May be 10mm for Melbourne. West will do best.
Geelong may get double that.
Few light showers in Olinda the last half hour.
Thunder, lightning. First time for ages. A short burst of heavy rain too.
Some fairly strong gusts with the line that just moved through Swan Hill. Looks like a singular cell is strengthening over the Central Districts within the main line and heading SE. Maybe lining up Melbourne a little later this afternoon?
Snapshot of radar, the strengthening cell moving SE. Perhaps the stuff ahead of it may stabilise the atmosphere enough to slow it up a little.
My eyes and nose are confirming this is my worst hayfever season for many years. I’m surviving on daily Claratyne, otherwise I’d have clawed my eyes out by now.
Agree, it was indeed an excellent day for numerous reasons! And thank you, we're very fortunate to have lots of beautiful subjects to photograph here @Snowy Joey .
We were watching the pre-storm clouds this morning in the north east. They were roiling and changing as we watched them almost forming funnels. A few spits of rain a short while ago.
The Ducklings are looking forward to this afternoon's weather and have escaped their Mum’s watchful eye.
As has the littlest noisy cackler
Darkening skies and the wind has completely vanished.
Edit: Nags are off @ Bendigo due to "extreme lightning activity".
Dropped 5 degrees in about an hour in the city. Feeling much nicer
Rain setting in now.
Hopfeully some of those lightning active cells behind make it to the metro.
Feels like the chance of any rumbles is over.
If we get them, it will be late tonight.
You think this might clear and some discreet cells might develop out the back?
There's an outside chance as the change moves through around midnight that we'll get a rumble.
It's a thing of beauty!!!
Actually just had some good rumbles. All quiet again now.
Had a few rumbles here but most of it is breaking down before it hits the SE burbs
The Macedon forcefield has been at full strength today. So frustrating.
Some good solid showers in the last 2 hours and crazy winds when it wasn't raining.
Love the arrow shape on this fast moving cell.
Was desperate for some storm action tonight so took advantage of no lockdown and went for a drive. Had a good view of the cells breaking up over Macedon from behind the airport. Tried to get to Wallan to intercept that "arrow" cell mentioned above but it too fell victim to the very stable air that seemed to be hanging over the metro and it broke down very quickly.
Was good to be out and about though.
Great fun bummer they broke up.
Well as predicted it's a slightly muggy 18c this morning. 7.1mm recorded here.
Gorgeous morning in the northeast. Cloudless skies, light breeze, and already 21 at 9am.
We had several falls of steady rain last night, estimating about 12mm, especially with a solid storm that swept through with strong winds about 9pm. No thunder or lightning, but we heard some very distant thunder a couple of times.
Great to be out and about, even if the storm didn't play along this time. Fingers crossed for loads more opportunities (for both storms, and to stay out and about!) over summer.
@kylep, stunning photos! What a great view you have of Melbourne. That will be superb if/when we have New Year's Eve fireworks!
Our view is from much further away, but still dramatic here too. It was the Eye of Sauron sunset.
nah, i had hole open in the garden with trenches and reo ready to pour today, so for once, gimme that forcefield!
24 hour rainfall was on the lower end of the scale.
16.5mm here, thunder off and on from 2pm till 9pm. Good day yesterday!
Steamy morning with DP's in double figures.
Just enough rain to keep the vegie patch kicking along.
Grass seriously going nuts.
Solid stretch of dry weather by the looks of things .
Fairly gusty riding around the Eastern suburbs over the midday period.
Heat coming through Sunday.
Indeed @Claude Cat!
This "front" is moisture starved, but hayfever will be off the charts.
Speaking of charts.....
