Great pics and report (as usual) @rime noreason!
That's the last of the heavy rain in N/E Victoria.
One bloke managed to get a CAT front end loader badly bogged at work today. This was in Bright.
Managed to drag him out with an excavator I was using. We called it quits, just too wet.
Currently 17C and not raining.
Yahoo, 1/2 the day off!
16mm here since yesterday - slightly more than I was anticipating, but glad to see it was Southern Vic that got the bulk of it. Now sunny skies and blustery winds which is what we need to dry out crops after this rain and get harvest going asap...
Might hit 40c on Saturday, which is very 2019 of the weather. EC and other forecast models are hinting at rain in the week after.
Drove from Melbourne to Mt. Arapiles today. Rain, wind and visibility down to a few hundred metres around Ballan-Ballarat. Mostly sunny once at Stawell, and now bracing for some scorching hot days later this week.
Went for a quick scramble at Shiprock falls this afternoon.
First two pics from a few weeks ago.
And from today.
Was still drizzling heavily out the back of Gembrook at 2pm.
In for hot one this Saturday.
38C for N/E Victoria, 25C for Melbourne.
I think I'll be swimming in the Kiewa River....and keeping an eye out for bushfires.
Classic spring weather this week.
Luckily us southern Viccos avoid the furnace that will develop Thurs-Sat.
45.5c is the November record for Mildura. EC has 44c (generally +2 for surface temp) forecast for Saturday.
Keeping an eye on a reasably sharp front next Tuesday. Good timing, moisture and temp variation (pre/post front).
EC seems to have gone off it this morning after liking it for a few days.
GFS doesn’t look that bad for rain in the NE and the SW of the state on Saturday/Sunday morning.
A little bit for the Metro, more further to the south and east of the city.
EC liking the trough through Saturday night / Sunday morning for a drop over the metro area. Perhaps up to 10mm.
Tuesday's effort seems to be slipping south.
21mm up in the strezleckis from the start of the weeks rain event. Takes us to 27mm for the month of November(average here for the month is 88mm)! Ground is rock hard up here and the landscape was just showing signs of going off until the above rains.
Wow, I'd have thought you might have copped a bit more this week! We ended up with 34.5mm, taking MTD to 56mm and YTD to 785.5mm. Massive contrast to last few years - cutting hay for the first time since 2016!
That is fantastic news @Big_Red_60
Not much rain in store for the next 7-10 days, but apart from Friday and Tuesday, temps will remain milder.
@Snowy Joey , beautiful photos! I could hear the water babbling just from the photos, even before playing the video! Gorgeous on some of these very warm days!
Melbourne weather keeps turning on the ideal days for us these past few days. We went in the opposite direction to you, into town. How good is it to be back in Hookturnistan!
The city is still pretty quiet, which actually makes it really pleasant to wander around without the crazed crowds. The Flower Show has taken its displays outdoors this year due to Covid, colouring and scenting up the town. The roses smell divine, even from a distance.
Ours is such a beautiful city. It felt SO good wandering through our "home town" streets again at last!
Today, it was the opposite direction, into the Yarra Valley. Springtime put on its own flower festival here too. Everything is so beautifully green, a very welcome sight.
Oh, the life of Yarra Valley cattle!
Actually quite fresh this morning, but it's really warming up now.
Nearly 36 in the CBD just before 5pm and a lot of the suburbs.
34c here. Feels hotter. A breeze would be good.
The forecast is now 40C for N/E Victoria tomorrow.
The land is drying out quickly.
A quick dip in the Kiewa River tomorrow, it's still cold.
Might even crank the aircon up.
Aircon on here.
Big industrial sized raindrops. Not a lot of them, but enough to make it humid as ****.
Had a few sporadic drops
swan st is... popular
The heat didn't arrive in Tawonga South.
Only got to 32C, aircon not required.
It got to 41C in Albury-Wodonga and temps are dropping.
A heavy but brief shower at about 1.30 pm.
Damaging winds forecast for Alpine areas.
No smoke anywhere.
Record November temps for N Victoria. Mildura at 45.7 beat previous high of 45.5. Rutherglen 42.6 beats 41.8.
Struggling to reach 25c in Melbas town.
Funny ole day, yet records dropping to our north.
Really is a funny old day. Still quite muggy out. Big raindrops but not eventuating to anything.
Quite a pleasant day considering what it's like to our north. Clouds thickening...
In Hamilton for the weekend. Good steady rain has just set in. Country looking good, lots of dams filled, and with another 10-20mm tonight will seal it in for a couple of weeks at least. Wannon falls and Nigretta going nicely today. See pics.
Great pics. Haven't been to either of those falls.
Raining nicely just now at Flinders.
Looks like it will keep doing so for a few hours yet.
Just catching the edge of it here. Still just big drops for a bit then it stops. Should set in soon.
A wee bit underwhelming with winds being more of a feature.
perhaps 3mm by the time we're done.
Yeh, this fizzed fairly severely. Maybe an hour or so of showers and this is done.
The west did better. I'm sure Skeleton Creek didn't get 189mm either.
Windy is an under statement! Trees down for sure, confirmed by power off.
Hogan Island special. Peak gust of 139kmh.
Strong anom next weekend in the forecast for lower se.
Just a heads up atm.
You'd never guess that in amongst those endless, usually dry, flat paddocks that there are some reasonably impressive waterfalls.. just off the main hwy.. Before id seen them id driven past heaps of times.. thinking yeah.. right.. they will be a 5 foot trickle. Very wrong. Is a very beautiful part of the country.
20mm approx overnight, some wild winds around 4am kept me awake for a while, 70km gusts! Bot more drizzle this morning, but just patchy overcast now and the winds dying off. Should be a good arvo. Off to Cavendish pub for lunch, few beers and some cricket. Perfect!
Stunning morning today.
Just hovering around 20c. Really pleasant outside. Nice contrast to yesterday's mixed bag.
Severe weather warning out for a windy day tomorrow.
Gross. Strong northerlies.
Wonder if we'll get plenty of flies blown down from the interior, to go with all of the dust and other crap these strong winds inevitably bring with them and leave?
Already noticed more flies, and flying insects in general, than usual round here for this time of year. Don't need anymore!
Had some light showers on the way home from work Saturday night that were full of red dust. Left mud streaks every time the wipers went off making it hard to see. Reckon i used the windscreen washer a dozen times on the way home.
Yeh the flies seam bad early already this year.
They could be a problem come Jan Feb.
Annoying little basterds
Not a great day (tomorrow) for a 6x7m slab to be poured.
Lovely day today.
31mm for the month of November up in the strezleckis and the average for the month is 88mm.
maybe receive another 5mm or so with tomorrow change? Hopefully a bit more
Decent band of rain/showers entering the border, but models factoring yee ole bounce zone and strong NW winds to reduce falls.
Saturday/Sunday looking like a decent blow and a return to chillier conditions.
Probably worth noting that GFS has a significant tropical system down the Eastern Seaboard into Vic around 13th Dec. Something to keep an eye on as the MJO pulse heads into Phase 4-5.
These look cool
It was amazing for a couple of hours. I got a message from hubby at 8am saying quick look at the sky! No time to take pics this morning though.
Couple of rumbles, which is always a bonus
